I've seen pictures of famous producers studios and they dont have shit in them, theyre ordinary bedrooms with a computer, studio monitors, and a keyboard.

I also have two friends who have had songs released on beatport (one on dim mak & the other on turbo productions) and their studios are nothing more than any other small room with a computer screen and monitors..heck my room in college would probably even be bigger

Yep. Laidback luke and surkin are definately college students atm and are definately the sort of producers you want to emulating without a doubt. And your friends on beatport, phwoar, so famous I'm sure the OP was wondering about them precisely when he started this thread.

Just because the room doesn't have much in it doesn't mean that its not well treated and designed. Even if it wasn't, it'd probably still be in an environment where you could turn up a good pair of monitors, unlike a college dorm.

I've heard really good reviews about the Roland DS series, and have heard them myself, they're great. The Yamaha HS50/80 and the KRK RP8 G2 (using these) also come to mind.

The most important thing to remember is what sounds good to YOU.

Don't make a decision before actually listening to your models of choice.

trust me their rooms were not well treated and designed.. only one of them had a bass trap in his room (and it was only one trap). and yea, famous enough to be touring with wolfgang gartner right now lol. that's why in my thread I mentioned the alesis monitors because one of them uses it, i was wondering how good they were compared to others because they were so cheap.

college dorms are smaller than apartments I'm assuming.. i'm moving into an apartment, and I'm pretty sure there will be times when I can use them like during the day and when my neighbors aren't home, i'm not going to be blasting my monitors lol.. if I were then it'd be a problem.

but yeah anyways to get on topic for the original purpose of my question, it seems like the JBL's are on top of my list right now.. affordable and havn't read any bad reviews on them..thank you everyone for your advice and inputss! definitely have helped out a lot

lol, didn't realise you were the OP when I was slagging you off... Having bass traps is only neccesary if you need them, again there's a good chance that the room was fine to start with. Maybe they used headphones for most of their mixing or something, or maybe their mixes were shit. There are lots of famous producers with shit sound quality.

How your friends did it doesn't really interest me tbh, I'm just letting you know the way that will *probably* be easiest for you long term.

And on that note, I'd do whatever RANN recommends, because he knows his shit. So JBLs are probably a good option.

used the roland ds 8s and they are pretty decent monitors...i currently have the mackie hr 824s and they sound amazing! really tight low end, detailed mids and highs. i would recommend checking out the mackie Hr624s
