Guess I've got a way to go then. I agree the mix is denser and wider, but the artefacts, though perhaps pleasing, I'm still not fond of. Try normalising yours and mine to an RMS volume of -14.70 dB and listening to all three then.

Don't think you have a long way to go, you've got vision and know what you're doing and are able to deliver a quality master engineering wise. the remainder boils down to the weapons of choice, taste, engineering skills (how to get there) and engineer decissions (though these are intwined with monitoring/room capabilities)

regarding the crunch, Try listening on a laptop or just highpass in your daw, it's not as appearant in the full mix, but highpassed it's quite obvious.

What u hear in my version is some parallel compression from the Distressors and some Tube Harmonics from the SPL Tube Mastering Vitalizer. While this helps on the density and getting the overall levels up, it also gives some nice round harmonic distortion which soothes the digital edge.

In the end it's all about expectations and what the client likes, communication is key.

First picture is Atlantis sample, second is Raphie.

Before-After sample Atlantis by Mastering samples

Before-After sample Raphie by Mastering samples

Before-After sample third by Mastering samples

As you can see there are some problems with both samples,
bass is masking midrange and it is heavily leaked.
You can volume up max your hi-fi to hear it.
Try to put bass under control.

Atlantis sample can be raised few RMS db,but his dynamics is better than Raphie. Raphie have destroyed more dynamics and because bass is masking midrange the loudness isn't that noticeable in club.

It isn't so important to destroy dynamics because of loudness because clubs audio system is big enough to handle even quieter songs. Most important is to fix muddy,to clear song so all parts come to expression, raise up quieter parts of song and add punch to kick.

Further, both samples have metallic sound in mid, upper freq that is harsh for ears, this can be fixed by removing those freq that are unpleasant for ears, and to bring mid to front.
When listen samples max up volume on hi-fi.
Nice to see that guys are trying to help people with their knowledge, nice work guys, keep it up!

thanks for the comments, and uploading these on SC however you are aware that soundcloud waveforms are fictional? maybe your monitoring has a challenge with the midrange? what is the 3rd one? it sounds muffled? alos bit too much boost around 100hz.

BTW i also dropped a duller version on your soundcloud in order to make comparison with your version easier.

or download here

Sounds like you can do better? How do you propose un-masking the mid range when the mix is already like that? I think I took care of all muddiness (including cutting the boominess at 65 Hz). And do you hear this "metalic" sound in the mix as well?

Does anyone else have any more tracks they want mastered? I've since mastered the music for a small game and my repertoire is growing. If you want a clean, professional, dynamic sound, drop me a line.

my first recommendation would be to remove everything from the master and lower your levels, though i love the original track, this version is just too excited/limited.

Yeah please don't waste my time with already clipped versions. If you'd like me to master it then please provide me with an unmastered mix. It sounds like your mixing will need some work too but it's really hard to hear when you're distorting the sound so much.
