picking up a mint Lexicon PCM91 tonight, also just got Valhalla, which is nice for an ITB verb next to X-VERB but still doesn't deliver that lush Lexi PCM sound

Depending on how much you're spending, I would maybe think twice. We have 4 PCM91's at the studio and while they are great units, they have been outdated and shelved by our Bricasti's. Don't get me wrong the M7's are not cheap (especially considering they're only 2 channel) but they blow the PCM's out of the water.

I know, but got my PCM91 for 600 euro MINT! used once

Bricasti was a bit too much after my SSL Superanalogue G Buscompressor earlier this week.

I mean, business is good, but not that good that i can shell out 6K in 1 week on gear And i only invest proceeds or sales from other gear.

Fuck, that is a good deal. I'll stfu immediately. Are you sure you didn't buy it off a guy with a crack problem and several car radios for sale?

No from a guy who probably needed to pay bills very quickly

one thing i've never had the chance to a/b properly is a really good hardware reverb against a software plugin. i use altiverb for my reverb needs. how much of a difference is there with hard and soft reverb units?

I've actually never done an A/B with the hardware Bricasti's we have.

I do know however that the software IR responses are pretty damn close, but you don't get the modulation options with software, which can be a big downer if you're really into tweaking all the parameters.

I suppose if you can afford the M7's they are truly the best reverbs out there - I don't think a single major blockbuster film score in the last 18 months has been made without them.

The only thing is the IR's are free, and the Bricasti's are $1500 per 2 channels, so you have to weigh up free vs $1500 and decide if it's that much better.

agreed. for example ITB Valhalla is an extremely good verb, i really don't like convultions that much, i prefer algo's and dyanmics parameters.
The PCM91 has a few exceptional plates but also a lot of "instant fun" multifx presets, just dial in a certain effect and it sounds good.
