thats absurd. fyi, most people who start listening to trance first listen to the more laid back prog. stuff like oakenfold and pvd. they are more popular because they are more accesible from fans of other types of music (ie their track selection is a little more conservative).
if you play a really epic track to someone who has never heard any trance before, they will probably laugh in your face.
for most people, it takes time to get used to the more intense trance songs.

Alright, for me, Souvenir De Chine(orig mix) has one of the best most uplifting melodies and breaks ever produced. Chills just flow down me throughout the song. I rank it up there with such great songs as:

1. Barbers Adagio for strings (ferry Corsten mix)
2. Solar stone - Seven cities (V-One mix)
3. System F - Out of the Blue
4. Gouryella - Gouryella
5. PVD - Another Way (though this song is a little sad at times)

Yes, it follows the epic trance formula, but out of the thousands of songs that have been produced with that formula this is one of the tops and many are shit.

It isn't too happy or cheesy(hence the minor chords).

One of my favorites

DJ Tiesto ft. Junkie XL - Obsession

I love how it builds and builds forever and then drops. Not really in any similar style to Souvenir de Chine, but it's my favorite nonetheless.

the melody is just total bliss
it's so uplifting and emotional that the track just speaks for itself
but hey..who am i to complain
i mean...since l-vee and jurgen leyers are such crappy producers

Yeah especially l-vee, what is this guy thinking?
All his productions, airwave fire&ice, cape town, green martian, imo all crap shit, no melody in it
