Apple's design wouldn't breath taking if it wasn't for Jonthan Ive, Senior Vice President of Industrial Design at Apple.

Two days after Steve Jobs resigns as CEO, AAPL passes XOM again to become most valuable company

Perhaps you can add “succession planning” to the list areas where Steve Jobs has revolutionized the industry.

My theory is that Jobs’ resignation has been baked into the AAPL stock price all of this time (how couldn’t it be?) and the smooth transition and long term planning being revealed is being applauded by investors.

At the time of this writing, AAPL is at 352.63B while XOM is at 351.04B.

The true meaning of naive.

How would you know? There were smartphones before the iPhone and it was a growing industry with massive potential back then. There's no way to say that Android wouldn't be born without it.

iPad is a different story though; there were devices out long before the iPad, but nobody took that sort of product seriously until Apple launched theirs.

RE: the iPhone beginng and Android birth

I've been using smartphones since 2003 and kept a very close eye on this industry since 1993, when Motorola ruled the globe.

The iPhone and their ver of OSX (which essentially came from the iPod OS and OSX) first started developing in "early" 2005 time frame; Apple was working secretly with Cingular on some type of phone coming to mobile industry. Google quickly bought Android from a start up company 08.17 05 and most likely studied Apple's previous device OS's and the first iPhone. Google launched Android on 11.05.07, soon after Apple launched the iPhone on 06.29.07.

Even Stephen Elop from Nokia admits; when the iPhone came out, they had nothing even close to it, even from this day and that's regarding hardware & software. Back then, Nokia took the prime spot from Motorola and spent billions upon billions with R&D making unrealistic prototypes that would never come to market. Nokia was the pinnacle of the mobile industry during it's prime years of 1997 (with the 6110) until 2002. When Palm and Blackberry started to roll out with their "proper" smartphones in 2003, it started a whole new era and before then, I don't know WTF you would call the Treo 180 and Blackberry 950. (PDA Phones and two way pager)

Re: before the iPad

Basically, whatever Apple comes out with, Google and the other manufactures will follow.

Back on topic: Steve Jobs.

Where's Woz? I thought he was gonna play a role with the key note speeches. I guess his "like to see Apple more open" comment didn't jive with Steve "don't love nobody" Jobs.

Andy Rubin Got Inspiration for Android Framework While Working at Apple

Apple alleges that Andy Rubin got inspiration for Android's framework at Apple, according to an ITC brief in the case against HTC.

Rubin, co-founder and former CEO of both Danger Inc. and Android Inc, worked at Apple from 1989 - 1992. Rubin's superiors at Apple were the inventors of the realtime API patent that HTC is being accused of infringing on.

Android and Mr. Rubin's relevant background does not start, as HTC would like the Commission to believe, with his work at General Magic or Danger in the mid-1990s. In reality, as the evidence revealed at the hearing, Mr. Rubin began his career at Apple in the early 1990s and worked as a low-level engineer specifically reporting to the inventors of the '263 [realtime API] patent at the exact time their invention was being conceived and developed. [...] It is thus no wonder that the infringing Android platform used the claimed subsystem approach of the '263 patent that allows for flexibility of design and enables the platform to be "highly customizable and expandable" as HTC touts. [...] While Mr. Rubin's inspiration for the Android framework may not be directly relevant to the pending petitions for review, that HTC felt compelled to distort this history is illustrative of the liberties it takes in attacking the ALJ's [initial determination] and the substantial evidence supporting the ALJ's findings.

FOSS Patents notes that "should Apple at some point sue Google directly over this patent, this background could, however, have serious ramifications: Google (or a Google subsidiary like MMI) would almost certainly be found to infringe the relevant patent intentionally, and willful infringement would greatly increase Apple's chances of obtaining an injunction as well as triple damages."

(I keep forgetting about Andy Rubin which he previously worked for Apple)
