I was thinking, who did have a look at Youtube to check LA Style?

Anyone liked it except oldiest like me who danced on these?

Think it would be cool to play some really old classics in a todays set.
So would you mind hearing this nowadays in a set?:

i admire his amibition... but its misguided. Like most of the multi-faceted musicians out there (prince, bowie, etc), he fancies himself a chameleon, constantly shifting his artistic direction with every album. That's no small task but I wish he would stop following the current trends and start setting the precedent again.

He needs to go back to putting all of his passion and energy into a more sophisticated sound instead of desperately (and futilely) attempting to become a pop star. Sure that would come with a hefty pay cut, a significantly smaller audience and far less of an ego trip but at least he'd come away feeling artistically fulfilled. Or he can lie to himself and think he's making music of the same caliber...whatever works.

And it eems like most of his peers are suffering from the same syndrome. In an attempt to keep up with the current sound, they`re blatantly sacrificing their artistic integrity, as well as their individuality (the cornerstone of their greatness). Is it really that important to reach a wider audience? If your music is good it'll reel in the right crowd. What use is the casual fan anyways if his only reason for liking you is because you pander to his (narrow) views?

I still see a glimpse of the old BT on THM...but its fading.

/end rant

I don't think it has to be nuanced or ground-breaking but then it's not really news and shouldn't be presented as though it's coming from any controversial point of view. The headline invokes this notion that he's in defiance of some arbitrarily imposed standard backed by a legitimate movement of trance purists. Whether a shadowy faction of trance connoisseurs exists, along with how much influence they exert, remains to be seen but their importance seems to be largely magnified so that BT has someone to defy.

That said, it's not the J00F/Perfecto marketing drive made to look like a subversive, rebellious campaign to "reform the scene" in the name of grassroots appeal. Perhaps he is being attacked unfairly and I'll concede to being completely jaded about most of the "news" articles that get posted in this forum. Still, it's just kind of an irksome static that isn't really important or interesting.

God this forum can be simultaneously amazing and incredibly annoying. People are allowed to like and play dubstep. BT didn't seem like he was being pretentious to me, it just seemed like he was rightfully annoyed at the people who go to a show and expect to hear the same music over and over again.

You can't win, people on here complain if you make something resembling classic trance because it's dated, but if you do something that's currently popular like electro or dubstep then you just "don't understand" and people whine about how music haw "gone to shit."

God help you if you happen to like a pop song! Liking anything on the radio is a great way to lose your oh so important "credibility" lol.

If you want to listen Xpander for the rest of your life that's fine but maybe try to broaden your horizons?

Idk..

Lol. Amen to that.

BT, Tiesto, Armin, Ferry, Paul Van Dyk, and every other respected artist has forgotten what it takes to "become respectable."

The reasons could vary... they stopped trying, they sold out, or they lost their touch. None of us will really know.

But if they ARE trying to do something different, unique, and "expand their horizons," then they are not doing it right by targeting "the masses."

Seems like most of these artists nowadays have forgotten the fact that, if you want to be refreshing, do the complete opposite of what the masses are doing.

Think the majority of the "30 to 35 year old" set has moved on to house or techno. Otherwise he is pretty much right. Genre partisans are a bit of a dying breed. Probably a good thing.

That has been his thing for over ten years. Remember this album cover?

I would argue Satellite is his finest track, love that song so much.

I like "Satellite," too. Not saying the album was bad.
