I hope you just mean produceres with old heads...
The old ones have forgotten about their early days, often in other genres. Might be good to refresh their memory.

Since I'm 19, I'm just discovering trance classics I've missed out on. They blow me away.

This, for example. I have exactly zero nostalgic connection to this song because I heard it for the first time last year... but holy shit I'm in love:

I started listening to trance at about 7 or 8 years old I think when my brother just got into it. But we got into the scene a bit late so we never heard a lot of classics. I really enjoy digging through old compilations and finding gems.

What EDM is in desperate need of, are strong video game influences.
Here's an IMHO great track that can be used as an example.

Here's another example, this one has a deeper and more Metroid-esque feel to it.

You just need to stop listen EDM for a while. Come back with a fresh mind.

There is plenty of good stuff out there.

Last year and the year before I pretty much only listened to EDM.

But then after summer ended I got bored with it and haven't gone back.

I discovered that electronic music in general is very linear and monotonous. And this applies to all genres of EDM.

Other music is linear too with a verse/chorus structure, but there's so much more you can do with a guitar, drums and a voice to keep it fresh.
