What you need is an Eyefinity dedicated AMD card, but good luck trying to get one for a Mac.

EDIT - Seems it's a driver issue (or lack of). I guess if you booted into Win7 you could use them, but then that defeats the purpose of buying a Mac.

Fuck you, dude. Maybe try something other than an open forum if you don't want anyone interrupting, you tool.

Do try to keep up.

Maybe I read it wrong. I thought you put GPU's in parantheses because you meant it was another name for integrated graphics . Silly me.

What is the biggest mac display ? Pretty sure my setup has alot more surface and it fits manuscript paper perfectly.

MAC just has awful choice in video cards. It is ridiculous actually.

Oh, OK, it's the smaller setup that is having issues.

Couple of questions then:

1, with the two smaller monitors - are you running both off one card and the picture reference off the other card?

2, What video connections are you using? (mini dvi/display port etc).

3, What video cards do you have in that mac?

Apple used to make much larger displays (which is what i was using) but now the biggest they do is just 27 inches.

i think i've settled on my solution. Since it will only ever be used for video reference, a small pc with a decent video card seems like the best setup. Then sync it from the mac. In fact i already have the pc, just need to get a decent video card which is pretty cheap for pcs.

it is really discouraging looking for video cards for mac. I swear they do it on purpose so you can't upgrade and have to buy a new computer.

I remember the cinema display you are talking about. Not sure where it went. Next thing to go is the mac pro.

If the rumors are true, 2012 will see Apple bring out a large flatpanel HD TV - they reckon it will have wifi display interface and be at least a 40".

The thing with Mac video cards is that they are trying to keep the system stable - videocards compatibility and drivers can be one of the easiest things to destablize a system, and when you combine that with the fact apple have put a lot of emphasis on so making high quality display and a quality user experience, I kind of get why they want to limit the options to things they know will deliver the quality they want.

You know you have another option: mac can output video via firewire. All you would have to do is get a cheap FW to video adaptor like the canopus range and plug that to your screen.

You can't go wrong with one of the 5000 series AMD Eyefinity 6 cards in that case. The 5770 has 5 DisplayPorts but probably lacks a bit of grunt so try the 5860 Eyefinity 6 edition. Should get it for a decent price these days.

Not really sure what you could possibly consider unnecessary. There is no hardware to speak of. This is where I do my prep work and pre production/mix. The entire setup screams workflow. There is absolutely nothing to gawk at.

Laptop + monitors.

yeah bro i bet you're quite the pro...
put up or shut up, lets hear some productions

I don't think there's anything which proves it's okay to be a loudmouthed fool. There are no professional certifications. There is no best-practice benchmark. Not even a demonstration of genuine facility beyond what might be accepted as reasonable proof will ever qualify someone to be a loudmouthed fool. The only real qualification for being a loudmouthed fool is by routinely alienating people you disagree with. The more your credentials qualify you, professionally, the bigger the fool you are for marginalizing anyone.
