I've known about this for a while now. I could get behind this if it were more organized and had a more specific message or set of messages. Perhaps if it continues, as they planned on being there for months in their original statement, they will realize they need more structure. A little ironic considering what they're protesting, but right now it just looks like a group of irate hippies to outsiders.

highly doubt anyone would waste their time blocking emails in the states manually. there is no need for the gov to issue an order (under patriot act?) to do so.

i blame SpamAssassin (or the yahoo equivalent)!

43)Create a special winners tax on JP Morgan & Goldman Sachs
46)Address the DOLLAR problem as world’s reserve currency
53)Reframe Greed as an illness found in the DSM-IV

1. no. chain effect on our trading partners who will do the same to us immediately. good luck buying bread.
5. already happening. this statement is too broad just like it was in the final version dodd-frank.
9. mark to fantasy still exists. you should be arguing to get rid of it.
10. why does everyone think GS is behind may 6th? why don't you blame waddell and reed as the report clearly indicated? or blame trillium and jane street for quote stuffing? HFT is nothing new and has been happening for decades, just the magnitude increased with lowered cost colocation at Nasdaq's datacenter in NJ.
26. lol what? it's their money on margin. what are you regulating? they keep the markets fair by shorting. stop them from doing business and you increase instability in the markets.
34. are you serious? do you understand basic economics? you wouldn't have electricity to turn on your computer if it weren't for the Fed's decisions. do you even know how much it would suck if we had deflation in this country?
35. flow of funds report is your friend. http://www.federalreserve.gov/relea...urrent/data.htm - have fun reading!
43. yea! let's tax a commercial+investment bank and and independent investment bank! i hope you like paying more for everything, because these costs will trickle down to consumers immediately and solve nothing.
46. sorry, but maybe you can explain an alternative to using the most stable currency besides the pound and is not a derivative currency based on the deutsche mark? you realize world currencies are fiat money?
53. reframe PLUR as an illness too then. come on man, it's a natural human emotion that clearly even YOU feel.

please do your research next time.

some of my students have been going to this daily (which is ironic 'cause they're mostly business majors...).

protests work best when you have a specific/tangible aim in mind (repeal a law, highlight something like an incident of brutality, etc.): these kids are there protesting "the growing inequality in America." nice sentiment, but it's so vague it ain't accomplishing shit.

I do agree with you on this. There is no specific message or a target.

Hey man I understand where you're coming from but if you have the time it's worth putting an extra body down there for support. Hopefully it's in its early stages and will continue for sopme time for a more cohesive message to come together.

Here's to hoping for a surge this weekend.

I urge everyone who's sympathetic to this this cause to donate a few hours of their time this weekend (or anytime if you don't work) and help give the movement a larger physical presence. No signs/crazy shit needed....

as for the whole protest, not much is going to change wall street will keep gettin bailed out etc etc theres not much the average hippy can do about it

what i really find horrible is that the goverment keep's giving these guys money along with their bonuses etc etc but they wont give the firefighter or emt who was down there a few blocks away saving lives and searching for victums on 9/11 the proper medical coverage they deserve

I was a School of Mgmt major at Boston University and work in an advertising agency. I know the first thought when people hear protests is that its a bunch of hippies - the crowd was relatively diverse over the weekend but the weekday hardcore campers will be the unemployed/hippie types just because they can be there at 2pm on a Tuesday.

The best we can hope for is them to hold the fort during the week (and hopefully continue to grow) with surges during Fri-Sun.

There are some specific policy aims:
1) Income Tax equality and closing loopholes (why am I taxed at nearly 30% when hedge fund managers are taxed at 15%?)
2) Reverse Citizens United and the nonsense of Corporate Personhood and implement campaign finance reforms (McCain-Feingold at a minimum)

These are things many people agree with (white and clue collar types)... Hopefully specific goals will crystallize... Remember that this has only beeing going on for 4 full days... I think it's done pretty well considering.
