The original Dubstep (DMZ) originated from dark UK garage like EL-B, not Drum & Bass. Although the original UK garage probably got a thing or two from jungle/rave.

This is from 2002 for example, there's tunes of this style from before 2000. you can look at countless other example on Youtube.

Hahaha. Sure!

Brostep is loosely defined. It's kind of a silly derogatory term. Highly suggest to not try to fully comprehend or take the term too seriously.

Just picture in your mind seeing the idiotic fans of Britney Spears, Lady GaGa, Rebecca Black, Akon, T-Pain, or whoever else celebrity that has an annoying fan base. Then translate that type of fanbase in your mind as dubstep.

It is nevertheless the case that dubstep attracted people who were tired of drum n bass in droves, especially as the genre started to gain momentum around 2005-6. The fascination for assaulting your ears with mid range frequencies can to a large degree be attributed to this, as can the fact that drum n bass producers such as Heist, Tech Itch and SPL suddenly felt like slowing their tunes down to 140 BPM.

I already thought it was, it was way too cool dancing (just maybe hoped it wasn't, so still dancing on dubstep to me doesn't look cool or groovy at all).

I like the effects in the tracks posted here, but it feels strange because of the lack of repetition. I just can't get used to it.

I would like to see the pattern continue and see some sort of dubstep equivalent to TA in about five years time, where everyone started off listening to Skrillex but now only listens to the Digital Mystikz, shits on every newcomer and spends all their time wishing they were old enough to have gone to the underground dubstep parties back in the "golden era" of 2003-2006.

Probably the same thing is happening on Facebook or wherever the youngsters spend their time these days. Forums are kind of on the way out in general, I think.

Nero is cool. I like only certain kinds of dubstep.

Never really listened to Drum n Bass tho. Xilent is a Drum n Bass producer but he made some Dubstep tracks as well.

I rather enjoy this one:

I think it's fair to say that the term "dubstep" has become so desecrated that most of the creative minds have fled from it. I've only heard a couple of good dubstep records all year - albums by Kryptic Minds and DFRNT - and they were basically solid retreads of well explored territory. Everything interesting in this area is now post-dubstep or minimal drum 'n bass, leaving "dubstep" to the wobble tards.

Yes. Electro house and brostep were transient fads that were quickly picked up by the mainstream. While trance on the other hand died more slowly as producers became less and less creative.

Probably the most pointless genre of EDM ever. The beat structure is awkward and irritating, it's not dubby enough, doesn't have flow, tracks go nowhere, can't dance to it, it's bot heady enough. Everybody that got into dubstep is now trying to get out & call what they're producing something else...bass, uk garage, darkstep, witch-house, brostep...fucking whatever!!!...just more nonsense to pawn off to young, neophitic K-holes that don't know any better....and as for the producers, nothing more than a clever way to get their name out there using the new-fangled (sarcasm intended) dubstep as a vehicle until they move on to something safer like techno. Burial and Clubroot are the only artists I like in this genre.
