With this and a Max Patch, its also possible to recall sequences that can be used for lighting or video as well, and implement them in real time and in sync.

cool but other than playing a massive stage setup and constantly switching back a forth between screens/sets i dont really see the practical use of this to the regular user..

Well they did a few variations of it, but the point is to try new things, nothing more and nothing less. Using midi in djing wasn't the norm when he asked his dad to make this, now, midi is everywhere.

midi where, in the mixer? this would only be helpful if you're trying to control knobs on the mixer through the setup on the laptop but again i dont see the point of this, you can use your fingers for that when playing live. (sorry not trying to be a dick about it, unless there is enough reason why midi is implemented?)

I love vinyl as well, so I'm glad to hear sales are picking up (even if its with mainstream media).

agreed, i think after so many years and so many formats it is the only format that has survived for so long as a DJ medium, it is important that we (as a newer generation) continue this trend of preserving it (imo at least).

Richie is on a douche streak right now. This kind of reminds me of another post I saw of his recently on FB that made me raise an eyebrow:

Matching the tempo of two records together is a skill, but not something that I would call creative.

I used to be the biggest Richie fanboy that ever lived (I've seen him play over 20 times in 5 different countries), but he hasn't done anything for me in the last 3 years (save one set at Guv on Canada Day in 2009). He used to play sets that would just floor you, but now I find his sets uninspiring and behind the curve. Nothing about his sets sound unique, except for that one tired looping effect that he continuously uses.

He's the tiest0r of techno, and I feel like all he does is play watered down sets for the masses.

The possibilities are really endless. Richie developed it because he needed it for the Plastikman live show, but its really very practical for day to day use, like when your sketching out new clips or putting together a live set.

Yeah, they reconfigured the midi settings in the stock xone 92, so that it was practical for controlling traktor/ableton. Instead of needing a mixer + 1200s & control vinyl + another controller (or a keyboard, which is limiting because it has no faders or rotaries), everything could be done via the ctrl 92 at the time. Xone saw the value in this and came out with the 1D & 3D shortly after.

Absolutely. I was lucky enough to get into this music when vinyl was still the norm, I hope the kids in 5-10 years from now have the same chance to appreciate it. For me, vinyl is the same as an 808 or 303. It just has a timeless warmth. My top two favorite parties ever were both vinyl only (one with Magda and the other with Britta Arnold).

I'll also echo this. The last time I saw a truly incredible Richie set was July 2007. He's gotten complacent. I think recently its because he's been doing the Plastikman Live thing so much (which I'm not a fan of), been so into the label, and hasn't actually been releasing any new material. He's also pigeon holed himself and minus into one sound. I'm actually really excited Magda, Marc, and Troy are doing Items & Things seriously right now, I find it different and interesting, like how Minus used to be.

Funny, I thought the same thing when I heard his "new direction" at a Benson & Hedges sponsored event at the Opera House in 2003.

Pretty pointless if you ask me, since you can't buy it anywhere.
