your reason for it not being a good synth for bass is - you need a preamp.
ergo your unit is broken. Loud enough for a lead but not a bass ? You are making no fucking sense what so ever. And even if it was broken and you were getting such low levels , how the fuck does that related to its capabilities as a bass synth. Use a preamp. done. just like bass players use a preamp.
