That's exactly the compromise my girlfriend and I made.

I hate the idea of proposing and dealing with all of the religious/commercialized stuff that follows.

She's always wanted to be married, though, so I'm willing to do it one day if it's in more of a private and secluded manner.

We both would much rather spend money on a honeymoon anyways.

My brother and his wife had a big wedding with hundreds of people showing up. I can't even imagine how much both families paid for it. I wouldn't ever have such a huge wedding, I'd rather get married far away from my friends and only invite our immediate families.

I've been to maybe 10 or more.

Never minded them that much but somehow I compare them to new years. All anticipation, no return.
I get bored and often times end up feeling depressed cause I'm always single during weddings (not that I'm feeling the urge to get married). Very often I'll just go back to the car and listen to some music ... that's freaking sad and antisocial come to think of it lol.

Most weddings are so freaking boring. You should keep that stuff to close family and friends to whom it really makes sense.

Also, I've had to help with a lot of weddings which I absolutely hate because I'll always end up getting annoyed ( cause things aren't clear about what needs to be done or people not happy with the music (I've had to dj a wedding or two ... NEVER AGAIN!))

In all honesty I probably (and that's a probably and not a certainty) enjoyed my two sisters weddings because they meant something to me and the parties were super fun (one sister being in the business should help that ... )

Marry at a courthouse, have a small reception in your home. I don't understand the huge party mentality. If I ever end up with a girl like that I think I'll have failed.

Lalala jokes, etc.

I just got back from a destination wedding in Jamaica! Best wedding I've ever been to. It was my second time being a bridesmaid, but I've gone to at least 10 weddings I think.

I actually got 'fired' from being the best man at my (ex) best friends wedding, lol. Uninvited, too.

He got together with this obnoxious, loud bogan chick (after cheating on his previous, lovely, intelligent gf to get with said bogan). I got along alright with her, but personally, there's only so much bogan I can take, and he used to complain all the time.

My friend was/is a total child (manchild?). He can't cook for himself, and if left to his own accord, he won't clean, or do anything at all, really. Which is fine, cos he was my friend, and I didn't have to do any of that shit for him. Wtf do I care? Basically, he was looking for a partner that was just like his mother, and bogan-chick did all that sort of shit for him.

I kept my mouth shut for soooo long, lol. They kept having all these huge, stupid bogan fights and nearly breaking up all the time, and I just got the shits and told him what I thought. Hilariously, he said "Yeah, you're probably not far off". Then he told his girl what I said

Oh fucking lol. Screaming bogan woman on the phone. Blah blah blah cunt this, blah blah blah faggot that. "My brothers are going to beat the shit out of you" was probably the highlight of the conversation

He's not allowed to be friends with me any more, though we tried to patch things up a couple of times....

Never mind. He's too busy with his 5 kids to do anything but work, lol.

I warned him

[/random Stu story]

Loud bogan chicks, I hate that shit.

There are good weddings of course, but most are overpriced shams with a dial-a-dj that everyone tries to pretend they're enjoying.
