I think it would only work as an invested group collective in that sense since there would be no single 'promoter' or 'rep'. It would simply be a lot of people coming together to try and bring out quality talent with a mutual understanding. Of course there would need to be several who organize the logistics - but there's enough of us here that know how I'm sure we could make it work

True. The more people involved, the more opinions on how things with the night should go. If there is no one promoter and inexperience people are suggesting things that just won't work would be a bad idea lol

For sure you'd need a team of experienced people putting the actual parties together - with everyone else simply suggesting ideas for bookings and offering the financial backing to make it happen. Whether it's a good idea or not wouldn't really matter since there would be no risk involved if enough people got behind a guy to bring him.

Way I see it it would be more of an ongoing thing, with people voting behind guys they'd like to see come. Once a name got enough support on votes the actual finances would need to come in from those people, and then finally the booking. Not exactly a simple idea I know, but would be interesting..

If we actually decided to do anything of the sort, I'd be game. Needs some commitment though. I haven't done shows in a while but I have some experience.

You should have to buy shares in the collective first to get a vote, else you get the derps who make a lot of noise but never pay up. I mean, you can't vote in normal shareholder meetings without owning the stock in the first place, right? And if you want your opinion to have more clout, you have to own more shares. Money talks.

Could also think of it as union dues since you'd have to keep an ongoing fund (maybe semi-annual or something?).

Well this is a great idea, and someone needs to get on it fast before some overachiever reads this and starts a website to facilitate these types of transactions ala ebay or something along those lines and steals the thunder haha

Like that idea - would be really cool if everyone just paid a membership fee then voted on who to bring based on the total resources available. Plus, in theory we could always keep the parties for members and cut out the flyer and promoting costs completely (and just charge a bit more for walk-ups). I worry that people might not want to put in money without being guaranteed to see someone specific, but I do like the idea that it would kind of force us all to trust each others taste and listen to new things. Kind of like a book club for music

Hell if we can get enough people on-board I'd love to see it happen. Figure without any advertising costs it would take atleast $1,500 or so to book someone like J00F (on a weeknight?) - $200 for hotel and transportation, $300 for a flight, maybe $700 booking fee, $200 for a cashier, and $100 misc. At that level, we'd need 50 people willing to put up $30 each or 100 at $15. Think it's possible?

John (JOOF) has seen this post and is up for supporting your quest.

Things have certainly gone a tad commercial in the US hence why John had been heading to other territories that understand and support him musically. He has a close connection to NY due to his residency at Arc many years ago and is keen to support you guys.
We need more guys like you.

email darren at: [email protected] for any questions

lets make this happen!

50 tickets at 30 bucks each SHOULDN'T be hard. Keyword is -shouldn't-, but I have high hopes. I'd even be willing to donate a bit more "investment", assuming if the show DOES pay off I'd get it back. If it doesn't... well... oh well!

We need a place, I have no connections there. Zee has RVL but I think a name like J00F would need a bigger place, just because I doubt you can get enough people to cover the costs into RVL. Is Santo's an option still, Brad?

Also, I, as well as others on here I'm sure, would also be willing to donate my DJing (opener or closer) for free. That saves a few hundred bucks as well for each slot.

Saweeet, would be great to see something like this happen Before we get ahead of ourselves though I think we need to remember that it would be best to start something very small and build it very slowly. A Friday or Saturday night would be very possible at RVL / Stay / National Underground for a minimal bar guarantee, but anywhere like Santos or Sullivan Room and you're dealing with a 5k bar guarantee which would require atleast 300 people. A Thursday to start would be much safer IMO since they usually don't have as high (or any) guarantees those nights, and we might actually be able to get a better deal on artist prices as well. I've got contacts at all the venues above and can help a bit in that area, but what we'd really need is a group of people to organize and run the events - any takers?
