I wasn't referring to an attitude you might hold specifically, just peoples attitudes of comparing themselves to much much worse of situations and going "well at least its not as bad as that!"
I understand how it can be reassuring but that sort of attitude can be dangerous if you begin applying it to more serious things.
"Shit, health care in this country is bad, but at least its not Liberia bad!" That makes health care here seem really good, when actually if you compare it to more closely ranked peer nations its actually REALLY bad still.
Yes using it to reassure yourself your life doesn't suck when your non-dairy creamer is out of stock is ok, but just don't extrapolate it out to wider more serious issues.
