All I know is that the Indian businessmen who are now running Blackburn Rovers are making some spectacularly bad decisions. |
The Bolton fan in me says that they're spectacularly good, and the Hicks/Gillett & Glazers haven't been fully popular. Blackburn is just funny to watch because their fans are cocky after their original sugar-daddy club win with shearer etc

The writing was on the wall immediately. They got rid of Big Sam who isn't pretty but is effective for a guy with absolutely no managerial experience at all. The guy who has run my non-league club for the last 8 years has more chance of making it work than Kean does. The thing is, we took a lot of abuse for the way we treated Megson who was doing just as inept a job and ignoring everyone from their fans and yet they're doing the same now.

Megson was an issue of engagement. When he got to the job, he immediately cut all links with the official supporters club. He refused to attend meetings like the last 15 years or so had been and wouldn't let staff or players come either. When he got asked about it, he said he didn't care what the fans thought. Problem is when you're in the bottom half of the Premier league your fans can make such a difference, the atmosphere can drive players on. He also insisted on playing for 1-0 games all of the time so would sub our strikers when we got to 1-0 and we invariably conceded.
Big Sam was direct but not all of the time. We also had some excellent passers in the side who could do it well, Okocha, Djorkaeff, Nakata, Speed, Hierro, Stelios etc were players who were as good as anybody in any team at a given time. He instilled fitness in the players and that helped us stay injury free (relatively) for a long time allowing us to cope with a smaller squad.
Right now we belong between 8th and 14th in the league in honesty. Problem is that for every team like QPR or Blackburn who get foreign owners and try to spend above their means, we're pushed down in our attempts to better ourselves on a smaller budget.
