doesn't seem like a lot of pple on the forum went to this last night but thought I'd post a review for anyone curious. the floor was crowded, balconies were empty, for a sold out show. I snagged a balcony tkt for $42 on stubhub at the eleventh hour & decided to go check it out. I'm glad I did the balcony thing because it provided the best view of the show & looking at the crowd partying below under the sweeping laser lights was awesome.

The Good: It felt like an NYE party, the vibe was great & the dj sets were all good. all in all, best party I've been to this year.

The Bad: It was nothing like advertised-pretty much 3 dj sets with about 5 minutes of acrobat stunts in between, webster hall has the same stunts & better every week. Nothing close to what was showed on the Youtube trailer, no mish-mash of science, arts, edm & sensory stimulation what not, like advertised. the only theater was an opera singer who performed for less than 10 mins with some dancers. Idk what I expected-maybe part stomp, part webster hall theatrics, part science show. I once saw a science show with spacey visuals on a large screen & uptempo music so I thought the 6 hours would include something like that, maybe some theatrical performances/dancing with dance music. This isn't going to change the way NY or anyone else looks at dance music.

However, as I mentioned the sets were great, I am now an Axwell fan because quite honestly I enjoyed his set more than I'd have enjoyed an Armin set, or PVD. I hate Skrillex, Deadmau5 & dubstep but in terms of the music that seems to be taking over the scene atm I do like SHM & Axwell & I'd go see them again. It does seem like they play the same songs/mash-ups in their sets, I'm sure many pple are sick of 'who's gonna save the world' already. but it's like their 'for an angel', some pple want that. great party, definitely felt like a NYE party last night especially with that balcony view, the lasers & such..

Sounds like everyone paid for a bunch of hype and a regular Axwell show. Thanks for the honest review.

We went to this before Markus@pacha - I enjoyed it. the visuals were good and axwell did an amazing job as always. I caught most of Thomas Gold's set which was good too, if nothing else then for the adele remix

However, I agree that it was more or less a 'regular' if well set up show. I found the opera part annoying to be honest. i suppose they had to do it for the 'concept' - but im perfectly happy with the over-the-top lasers and good tunes. either that or go ALL OUT which they def didnt do.

It was cool to be at the hammerstein for an event like this - but not sure i will go again unless its someone i really want to hear.

the prices were about that of a normal axwell show, so I suppose the hype was included at n/c

It was $73 + tax initially yeah? And a lot of people paid around $145. I think Axwell a year ago at Webster was like $25. I paid $10 to see Ingrosso at Pacha in November 2010. Hammerstein Ballroom isn't a swanky place, not worth the money IMO.

Cosmic Opera Announces Act II: Imbroglio

A few weeks ago, Act I of Cosmic Opera introduced an extraordinary new dance experience, combining the incredible talent of Swedish House Mafia's Axwell, with the beauty and mystery of the opera, all set against the backdrop of the magnificent Hammerstein Ballroom.

Act I was the Overture, and now Cosmic Opera presents the first taste of Act II: Imbroglio, which will bring intensity, conflict, and charged emotion.

Act II: Imbroglio represents the evolution of Act I, taking the phenomenon and expanding, transitioning, and unfolding it to new heights, new depths, and everything in between.

The mystery continues, the journey continues... what will happen this time around?

Visit www.thecosmicopera.com and Tweet #CosmicOpera2 to raise the curtain and reveal the cast and dates of Act II: Imbroglio.

Even if they aren't and debut at the same price or a little higher... I'm sure this will sell out again.

I have a huge bone to pick with them calling it an opera and it not being anywhere near the realm of opera (having a lady belting out nonsense for a couple bars does not an opera make--Evita the musical is an opera for god's sake). There was no story, no theatrics. It really annoyed me that it was no better than a Saturday at WH.

Act II can go to hell.
