I think the reason that Carte Blanche is so successful in these competitions is because it appeals to a very wide audience. For An Angel and Universal Nation are great songs, but the reason you hear more about them than Carte Blanche is not that people in general like them more, but because for a fair-sized group of people these songs are THE BEST. I can guarentee you that if you took a poll of how many people thought Carte Blanche was their favorite song ever, it would be a lot fewer people than for Universal Nation or, especially, For An Angel. However, I think Carte Blanche is a song that tends to fall in people's top tens, but not at number 1. For those people who are not touched by Universal Nation or For An Angel in an especially profound way, Carte Blanche is a more natural choice.

Carte Blanche vs. Pvd for an angel
Sure I love Pvd with a passion it is.....well I just can't get into for an angel. Just me. I am a little bit of a wierdo. But Pvd WORDS....THAT IS MORE like it. Carte Blanche takes my vote.

Paul van Dyk's For An Angel wins hands down in my book as it's one of my all time favourites, always will be. Carte Blanche is also a classic though I just don't rate it in the same league.

I guess FAA is 1 of those tunes that U either adore or u think is ok. im 1 who thinks its ok. its excellently constructed and sounds beautiful but it has no real kick in it. i think carte blanche is winning cos its more commercial sounding with uplifting synths and drumbeats making a spectacular breakdown. FAA just kinda plods along. No disrespect FAA is probly the tune that represents trance and is many ppl's fave tune ever but my vote still goes with carte blanche. Got me in2 trance as it did many others. PvD's best work imho is "Avenue"

does it matter?? i know they went through a shit period and released vengaboys and alice deejay crap, but Binary Finary - 1998, Ayla - Ayla, Ferry Corsten - Punk and Solid Sessions - Janeiro were from positiva too. moreso would it make a difference if For An Angel was released under positiva?

This time, I have little doubts: CARTE BLANCHE
(1 time I would have to give my vote to veracocha... yeah)
I hear them both, I like them both (in Vorsprung Dyk Technik 92-98 FAA is just an awesome way to finish the CD), but Carte Blanche is a step further than For an Angel... in my top of Fav's.
