Yes, it's been done. As a matter of fact, there's one airing right now on BET. It's called Master Of The Mix and it's a freakin' joke!
Ugh, that looks terrible.
Joel can say whatever, he's in a position that there's no such thing as bad press and for the few who are at that mainstream popular EDM level, an even bigger commercial spotlight is probably only going to make them (and him) more money.
For the scene itself, and for the finite quality of music, it's a truly terrible thing.
Not one ounce of credible music or artistry has come out of any of those so called "talent" shows so I kind of take Joel's post with a pinch of salt for the above mentioned reasons.

EDM is so mainstream now. Oh well, the good stuff will always be more underground. I have a feeling EDM will go the way of Hip Hop. There's still good hip hop out there, if you're willing to dig beneath the mainstream crap.

They should go into real nightclubs with hidden night cameras and let the crowd judge the DJ, best engagement and interaction wins. That's really what it's all about, not some judges sitting at the side of a stage observing someone under garish lighting while the crowd cheers on (to cue cards) from their seats...
