One more:

- All tracks should be finished for mastering to at least -6db (please note no suffix such as FS or SPL is necessary as per point #14). This will enable you to compress it during the mastering process back up to beatport's required format of +3db.

beatport is not +3, the standard seems to be 0-+1db but sites like beatport compress the music, probably the samples aren't 320kbps either.

That's pretty much the point of this thread. Anyone should feel free to use it to answer the questions that should never have been asked in the first place.

- Spend excessive amounts of time applying entirely subjective tweaks, like adding +1dB of EQ to the highs of your kick drum, "just to give it that extra click." Once you've finished EQing the kick, go and EQ a few other percussion elements, and then go back and EQ the kick some more. Don't pause recording while doing this.

- Showcase the latest, most expensive, flashy plugins. Use as many as possible. Be certain to only advertise plugins for which you've obtained kick-back "buy me" links for. Never divulge the existence of free plugins that accomplish the same task.

- Use at least 3 different EQ plugins in your mix, for extra clarity in explaining the basic engineering concepts to newbies while performing your subjective tweaks.

- Try to work in the use of 6 different compressor & limiter plugins throughout your mix to keep things "punchy" and make use of that UAD card.

- Make sure to get the word out as much as possible about how Omnisphere is merely a rompler.

- Above all, make sure every piece of software you use is redundant. Never use a DAWs native plugins, and ensure that you've installed a redunant plugin for every possible production task.
You may come to a point where you might have to use a new to you, hard to read plugin that's native to your DAW. Be sure find a flashy, bloated, cracked plugin to accomplish the same task. You'll reap tons of workflow benefits from any extra plugins installed while cracking giant software packages to use their compressor.

EDM is about production. IF you can produce your own sounds, you shouldn't be doing it. I have 0 respect for anyone that uses nexus. Nobody worth their weight uses it. It is a tool for tools. I know some of you use it and you should be ashamed. The whole point of dance music and what makes something worthwhile is that it is new and the only thing new in dance is sound production. The very nature of nexus makes it antiquated. Fine if you are making EDM ish commercial billboard guetta stuff but if you consider yourself serious in your craft and use this, well I think you have no integrity what so ever.

make your sounds. Stop trying to sound like everyone else especially if that involves loading up a preset in nexus. It is tacky, it is lame and it defeats the purpose of EDM.

The worst is you people making no money at all using it. I could understand if you were making money and you just say fuck it and use it but for those that aren't, why ? Why not be original. You aren't making money either way.

I really don't get it. Other than lazyness and the fear of having to learn shit. Oh nos,.

Now say someone doing pop or scoring films. ,now that is a different thing because the goal of those types of music is not to advance production. But EDM, that is what is unique to it and you are in the wrong field if you don't.

in order for retards to recognize good music, you must use Nexus pre-set presets, or else the 'experts' will think your music is crap.

You should not give a shit about what others think and produce music you like, whatever way you like. If others like it, awesome. If they don't, oh well. You had fun and you can always keep trying.

Oh wait, am I doing it wrong?

A lot of people would classify Ambient as EDM and i find hard to dance to this so the definition is obsolete.

Who exactly? A definition of this kind will not become obsolete. It's dance music if it's meant to be danced to. Imo.

Some people interpret "dance" as moving fingers against the chin in an arrhythmic fashion. It's all the rage now.
