Hello Jack missed ya bro.

Dubstep is currently experiencing the crisis equivalent to big trance crisis of 1999. Bad commercial guys have come and polluted what was once pure and clean and the folks affiliated with the genre are now distancing themselves from it and fleeing to related uncorrupted styles such as future garage.

For me, pure dubstep was never really that interesting or exciting. Rhythm patterns employed in most of the genre were really poor compared to programming found in IDM or some forms of techno, and atmospheres and melodic elements didn't sound too fresh either. I was recently reminded by pozz about a guy called Mick Harris aka Scorn who was doing "proto-dubstep" (basically dubstep minus the characteristic rhythm programming) back in the mid 90s and I can easily say that his stuff (especially brilliant album Gyral) still sounds better to me than 99% of modern dubstep. There is no better proof for this than my album collection which contains only one dubstep album - Untrue (has it been five years already?).

New forms such as post-dubstep (which is becoming nothing more than an umbrella term) seem much more impressive and it'll surely be interesting to hear the future developments and further genre integrations.

dubstep is great. i think genre labeling things is weird but if it is at the whole 140 kick snare then i think it is definitely dubstep.

and im really surprised skrillex didnt win best new artist. i dont really know of any one in the edm community that does work harder than that guy.

another thing.

bringing the underground to the mainstream is great. it causes the underground to evolve even more.

and the engineering involved with most of those synths is awesome. so much better than stereotypical synths in most genres.
