actually, in LA, there is a rule versus gender discrimination. when we started 300 events ago, some of the clubs we started in always advised us to not promote it such...but do it under the table.

having said that, it goes what we stand for, so we never resort to such.

its interesting that one promoter I see on facebook at Supperclub wants 1 is to 3 male to female ratio, or you have to buy a bottle.

Plain and simple, its gender discrimination. $50 isn't a lot of money per se, since thats what you typically pay to see top DJ's anyway, but its the fact that rates are subsidized for women that I find surprising.

If they are that particular about maintaining balance, make it couple entry only. That, along with the dress code, usually keeps out the shady guys (as is the case @ 'Slide' in San Francisco).

Yeah - if its $150 entrance then getting a table makes sense, but prices are usually never that high (I assume this was a long weekend). It also depends on how many people you are with.

encore beach club just announced their opening edm weekend april 21-22
angello $50 females/ $100 males
tiesto $50 females/ $100 males

HELL NO!

as for slide, you can get in there with a group of guys no problem, just get on the guestlist, and get there early. stamps/in n out, so no problem getting in.

As for "prices are never that high" i can guarantee that at the door $150 will be the going rate if presales are $111(service fee). Yes we were there for labor day weekend, and getting the bottle service we basically received our "cover" in alcohol/tip. don't know about you but if i have to pay $111 to get in, i'd rather also get 11 coronas included rather than pay $111 and then pay $9 per corona once inside.

House and Trance.

DnB and Dubstep tend to be very dudey. [And I just got into DnB lately!]

I would happily pay equal price in exchange for creepy guys leaving me the hell alone. I don't take drinks from strange men anyway. I tend to stay away from Ladies nights because it brings out the creeps.

Isn't there laws against price discrimination based off gender? I know they can do it legally with age because of the constitution but I thought that pricing based off gender was illegal. And what defines a male and female? There are people over Hollywood that don't exactly fit these rigid definitions

Nah man. I went to Marquee last year for Markus Schulz back in February. The line was huge but I think I met a bouncer who wasn't aware of the going rates because I greased him a 50 and he let 3 of us in (1 girl & 2 guys). We also paid $50 per guy to enter (think it was 20 for the girl)

Going there again this weekend so lets see how it goes. Also staying at the Cosmo but not sure if that makes a difference since the club is so popular right now.

I know its insane but that said, I have to admit that I have a double standard here. As a guy, I prefer clubs that have a higher concentration of women. I have a girlfriend and I hate the idea of ever having to leave her alone in a club because you know that by the time you come out of the bathroom, some random dude will be trying to chat her up. So far, I haven't had any trouble and guys are generally respectful when they find out that the girl's taken but I've heard some pretty messed up stories, thus I do understand why clubs do it.

But its still discrimination. Reminds me of this fake Mcdonalds sign. The funny thing is that if clubs can get away with charging guys more, if Mcdonalds actually posted this sign, it would be legal right? Its no different than what clubs are doing, except here its color and with clubs its "sex".

I've heard staying at cosmopolitan does grant marquee entry so on a $70 kaskade night, get a room between 2 guys. That's $140+ service fees and you don't have to deal with taxi and can come and go as you please.

this had to be written by a white guy, moron. Last time I checked most blacks in America did not come from Africa. Black-American is the correct label. 300+ years later and they still come from Africa? fuah...

LOL soooo true! I've seen Kaskade 9 or 10 times since his early (much better) days when he played GOOD house music and each time has never been a dull night

i would say that since being in this scene for the last 8 years there are definitely more women going to EDM clubs/nights/events than before but i go to mostly techno undergrounds these days and that is definitely male dominate and i LIKE those odds

i will say that Made in Brazil nights definitely bring out the most attractive people i've seen at Avalon, always a good eye candy night

I feel like the cheesier the music, the hotter the women -- across all genres. Since much of the popular house music now is crossover cheese like Swedish House Mafia, Dave Guetta, Avicii, Kaskade, etc. that gets the most hot women. Look at Robbie Rivera pool parties at WMC.

And on the trance scene, the fluffier dj's like Tiesto (pre-house), AVB and A&B are going to attract more hot women than the harder bassline German/UK trance dj's.

I've been to avalon a million times, and IMHO, the hottest women come to the worst dj's. Sharam and Dirty South and other mediocre house dj's will have way hotter women than any major trance dj's and more than other legendary dj's such as sasha or digweed.

the worse the music, the hotter the women!
