I'm gonna be hitting up the Carl Cox Tent both Friday and Saturday, for Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Sven Vath, and etc. I've taken a liking to techno but I'm not willing to drop money on something without really knowing much about it.
For me personally Miami is very sporadic with Trance bookings. This is the one week when we get tons of dj's and producers who never come here. Most House DJ's frequent Miami pretty regularly, so why waste my time at an event that is likely to be overpriced and jam packed when I can go later in the year and be more comfortable.

You can defend them all you want, in fact I admire you for doing so, but don't you find it a little suspect that whenever these characters change their style and sound - it's always a "coincidence" they select whatever sound happens to be "popular" that month? - John Askew
A lot of artists today are just victims, not having control, and they're not free. And that's pathetic. If you start being dependent on money, then money has to reach a point to fit your expenses. - Thomas Bangalter

I can understand that especially if you live in Miami, but to make the trip and only see trance djs doesnt make much sense to me. Honestly, living in Miami and only seeing trance djs doesnt make much sense to me. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
Electro-House djs go to miami all the time but I wouldnt say the same is true for the more underground forms. the pickle and treehouse brings them in at times but for the most part they stay away.
Most of the fun to me every WMC is discovering new djs. I like knowing what genre im going into but not having a clue as to who the djs are. Gives me something new to discover every year. This year I can only make it down for 2 nights so I did stick to things I knew...for the most part anyway, but if I was going down for the week again, I would pick AT LEAST a couple parties I only know maybe one dj and the rest are a mystery.
And as far as you not knowing much about techno, they best way to discover it, just like any edm genre, is in a club with people that enjoy it so you can not only hear it on a big sound system but feel the vibe that scene has.

Meh, I enjoy other forms of electronic music, but for me they each have their specific atmospheres that I enjoy them in.
I prefer techno and house for pool parties and more laid back stuff. When I want to party and get a little crazy, I prefer trance. Deep stuff I listen too when I'm chilling out at home or something, or at the end of a long night. I won't listen to faddy electro stuff or dubstep.
Since I'm on vacation, I want to party and get wild, so I primarily stick to trance stuff. Fri and Sat don't have a single trance DJ at Ultra, so I'll get my variety fix through those days.

My parties are finalized. It's me and one of my female friends, so obviously I have to take her likes and wants into consideration, but I'm sure I'll have a great time at all of these different parties. And yes, we are doing Ultra, but the lineup is really good this year and they did well booking a lot of quality non-mainstream guys like Art Department, Visionquest, Hawtin, etc.
Thursday day: Dirtybird BBQ at Villa 221, Downtown Miami
Thursday night: Euphoria (BT, Ronski Speed) at Ice Palace, Downtown Miami
Friday day: Ultra
Friday night: X-Mix Productions (Armand van Helden, DJ Sneak, DJ Dan) at Shine, South Beach
Saturday day: Ultra
Saturday night: Markus Schulz at Space (hopefully can get upstairs before at some point), Downtown Miami
Sunday day: Ultra
Sunday night: Mau5trap at Amnesia, South Beach (rare chance to see deadmau5 in a club setting, plus I freaking love Amnesia. Just a badass club).
Sunday at Ultra, I'm going to be bouncing around quite a bit between ASOT 550 and whatever tent has the Visionquest guys, Umek, Noferini, Digweed, etc. So much good talent at the festival that last day. Love me some Umek and Digweed...

Word. I like trance the most, but to me it's fatiguing to get too much of it at one time. Shit, I'm only doing three trance partied (Euphoria, Schulz, ASOT 550) and I think I might be overdoing it. Then again I also love most strains of techno and house, and I damn sure want to get that fix in during WMC as well. It's funny, the party I'm most stoked up about is the cheapest and probably least publicized party of any I'm attending (dirtybird at Villa 221). Those mother******s know how to rock a party.
