that's cool that you linked your post and all, lira, but would you mind translating (for those of us that don't speak bastardized-spanish) ?? |
Oh, sure! You need some quick background information first, since it's a parody:- Brazilians suffer from an acute case of cultural cringe. Although it clashes with a deeply ingrained Anti-American sentiment, there's the tendency to portray other countries as superior to ours(with the exception of the USA, because we shouldn't let ourselves be "colonised"). If it doesn't make sense to you, that's because it's irrational;
- We have become a nation of Nous since last years earthquake because the country supposedly survived the apocalypse rather gracefully (one reason is, of course, that it didn't go through anything as apocalyptic as our media portrayed).
- There was a hoax on Facebook that claimed that "in Japan, the only citizen who doesn't have to bow down to the emperor is the teacher, because they say 'in a country where there are no teachers, there are no emperors'". That's bollocks, obviously, not least because it's easier to be an emperor under such circumstances. Still, it didn't stop my more impressionable Facebook friends from parroting this hoax.
Now that you know WHY I made this parody, here's what the caption above the picture said:
| quote: | | As a former professor of Japanese language at the University of Brasilia, a Japanese language major, and being someone who actually cared to do some research before posting this [picture], I've got to ask you: Where the hell did you guys come up with this idea that teachers don't bow before the emperor? |
The picture said:
| quote: | "In Japan, the only professional who doesn't need to bow before the emperor is the teacher...
... because, according to the Japanese, if something is written on a Facebook post, it's got to be true. Specially if there's a picture.
Why should teachers check their sources anyway? |
So it's just me poking fun at the amount of disinformation posted on Facebook. There were others, such as the moon being the size of Mars on some given night, but my credentials as an "expert" helped me give this pisstake some more credibility, it seems.
