The variation can be rather subtle it seems and still be effective

it is a dialogue between musical ideas. One element states one idea. another replies with a contrasting idea that brings balance to the phrase. IT could also be the same thing stated with a different instrument, at a different time....

It lis literally a conversation. The reason it works in music is because just like a conversation, having everyone talking at the same time is annoying,

The term is never used to describe formal structure on a large scale.

i don't really buy into the general idea but this lecture will make you think about music in a different way that touches on this topic And it is taught by Bernstein.

Fantastic lecture imo. Thank you very much for sharing.

The point isn't to "get out of your body", it's to bring awareness to your consciousness while you're experiencing another reality.

I'm not really sure what you mean, is this a good example of C&R?

The element starting from the beginning.

Can it be just one element or it must be 2+?

Also, this is a really nice piece to listen to.

No, that's just two notes repeating. There is no dialogue, or exchange of musical ideas. In a real world sense, it would be the equivalent of a guy standing in room full of people repeating "hello" to himself.

Yeah, it is. Thanks for posting it.

Here's a long article with in depth analysis of call and response techniques, with samples of various tracks. I don't quite agree with everything he's saying, and again, he's also talking about C&R on a song structure level, which according to this thread is not technically correct but there are a lot of insights to be had.

Alright, I heard this one last night and was thinking it might qualify as call and response.

3:29: "Is anybody listening?" (brass) "da da da da da da" "oh oh oh oh" (brass) "da da da da" ect

I don't want to read too much into it but I think the song is utilizing the technique consciously due to the content of the lyrics 'no reply at all' 'is anybody listening?'.

This is such a cool track. It reminds me a lot of the electro of today but this was from like 8 years ago. Actually it reminds me more of Jark Prongo - Movin' Thru Your System,
