I hope thats not too specific, Im sure you know what I mean. Not dark, bleak mechanical stuff. The kind of techno with big basslines and loopy tribal rhythmns that make you shake yo ass.

If you need an example of exactly what Im on about try this.

You mean like Skudge and Roman Lindau and stuff like that? Maybe Basement Techno is a good name for that?

It would still be a trance mix, just with trance that you think sucks. That isn't the same as giving a person a vague as hell description of a "genre", and that person then having more or less carte blanche as to what kind of music the mix will contain. There's little to no challenge in that.

Whether it's a "genre" or not, you're generally going to have about 2-3 different types of styles you can choose from.

Aaanyways, I'm not going to say UK bass-music, but I do think that future garage is a specific enough genre.

ok. but i'm going to repeat the entry i used last time because someone didn't do it.

Disco.

and i'll repeat the guidelines i used last time. when i mean disco i proper fucking disco. not neo-disco, not boogie. disco.

i'm ok with people using subtle edits since yunno, a lot of proper disco had an actual drummer keeping time but not anything more expansive than that. i'm also really ok with any of the new stuff that do sound old but i do mean that it should sound like philadelphia.

To be honest you could probably call what Im after just techno. But its such a vast genre that I wanted to quantify what I was thinking of a bit more. Anyway, Im quite happy with people to take from it what they will, it'll be interesting to see what comes back!

Is it OK to call it Late 90s Techno? Or maybe Funky Techno (sounds very strange to me)?

Also, since there was a question about this in another thread, please note that it is possible to get your own genre. The point is that you shouldn't be safe if you suggest something retarded.

Slowed down, rather atmospheric Drum & Bass, made and popularized by dBridge & Instra:mental in the last 2-3 years. (in case you're wondering why it's called Autonomic, that's the name of Instra:mental's podcast that popularized this sound)

No offense, but that is a fairly recent development within dnb and a legitamate strain/ sub-genre. The difference is that this is very much a deeper, stripped down form. Drum n bass is quite a broad genre these days much like techno and house. It's not hard to do at least a little research, I mean this is supposed to be a genre challenge right?
Look, I'll leave it with general DnB if no one else adds any other styles of dnb to the game.

Fuck it, I'll change my genre to just UK garage, leave the future part out.

And ugh, we have 2x Disco know (yes I know they are different, it's just that I'd rather do Hands Up or Speedcore than Disco )

I had to give some thought to this, because like a lot of people, I didn't want to get stuck with a genre that was going to take forever to research or one that I didn't really care for, or like very much.

But let's look at it this way, most of us release mixes that are well within our comfort zone, so we are able to execute a set of our choice with precision and passion. When we are tossed out of that comfort zone, it truly tests our abilities as DJ's. So I say TRY a rare genre, or one that will take a while to find stuff for. Odds are good, if you posted in this thread, you have enough time to do a little digging.

With that said, here is my entry: Psybreaks. Whatever variety of psybreaks you want. I can't wait to see who draws this and what I draw.

Good luck folks.
