Well let's see, if 70,000 women around the world die every single year from unsafe/illegal abortion, leaving behind 220,000 kids- I care. When assholes like Rick Santorum and all the other right-wing religious zealots in the Republican party trying to run the country, start chipping away at access, whereby people start bringing kids into this world they can't support or don't want and end up either on welfare or in adoption agencies- I care. I care when the economy is in the shitter, rich people continuously get tax breaks while poor people get screwed, and are now also forced to bring kids into the world they can't afford. I care when Republicans start claiming class warfare when they're asked to simply pay their fair share in taxes so the rest of the country can live too. I care when people don't have access to even prenatal care for kept pregnancies, because the govt took that away, while simultaneously forcing them to carry this unwanted pregnancy to term. I care about the 500,000 kids in need of adoption across the US who will stay there and some will age out of the system since gays aren't allowed to get married in certain states, let alone adopt.
I care when all this hypocritical bat-shit craziness happens in the US and then conservative leaders/mps here, start taking cues from their evangelical neighbours to the south and start trying to implement their bible into every uteri in Canada. I care when there are protesters outside the clinic I escort at every Saturday. I care when they harass patients and try to coerce or manipulate them with misinformation, completely ignoring the wants, needs and desires of the patients who want the abortion.
I also care when people are apathetic or complacent and think that it's just enough to be pro-choice. And while I agree that we shouldn't still have to keep fighting this anymore, there are people like Stephen Woodworth from Kitchener and Brad Trost from Saskatchewan, who think otherwise (ironically, neither of them have a uterus to impregnate).
So while you may think that this is a useless venture, when I'm in it face to face and see it with my own eyes, I know that it's important people be aware and fight back.
