Most people other than the serious TA can listen to the formulaic trance song over and over and still keep interest. Myself, I could listen to it forever, i have been listening to almost exclusively trance for the past 4 years.
Trance has the most depth of all the electronic genres (of course im biased hehe). The range of emotions is much greater, and the melodies can make a song sound completely original.
underground house - almost no emotion at all
mainstream house - funky ass-shakin sexual music thats about it
hardcore - eyes popping "i feel like jumping up and down" music thats about it
jungle/d+b - good variety of feelings to the songs, but not like trance
breaks - no comment haven't heard much
hardhouse - dumonde_trancer's old signature sums this up pretty well

wow.. this is a subject that's on my mind constantly every weekend. It's a sad state of affairs in portions of the Midwest, especially in smaller towns. Seriously, almost all you can get away with playing electronica-wise in this sad little hole of a city is pop-techno, house, or hard house/trance. (don't forget the ever-popular anthems) Techno-wise this town is roughly 6 months to OVER A YEAR behind Europe musically. If it's not hip-hop or pop, it's crap according to people around here. It's so bad that I actually heard the complaints people have of trance to include the statements "we can't dance to it!" That just blows my mind. It won't make it large here at all, the only places it will in this region (I'm in WI, btw) are large college cities, or just overall big cities. My dj buddy at a local bar is a trancehead also, but we'll only spin the tunes early early in the night before anyone shows up. I was shocked and amazed when he threw in a few minutes of Binary Finary, and I gave him huge props for having the balls to, but that's about it. We can slip a few in but not much.

We'll keep trying, but if they continue to stay so close-minded, that's about the best we can do. The running quote between us is "I need to move to a bigger city" or "I need to work in a -real- club."

what you mean youve never heard normal trance played in sydney???

its everywhere unless you only consider euro trance as normal trance... australians tend to like alot harder stuff like scot project kai tracid cosmic gate hennes and cold and all that but you still get heaps of euro and straight up trance at big events all over sydney like two tribes i think the hardest track played all night was scot project remix of 2nd trip other then that it was more euro trance! about the only place where you can find a complete hard house set is plastic and sometimes ice box on a thursday night! hard house i dont think will ever die in sydney theres too much of a scene of dies hrads for it... and hard house internationals keep coming out... andie halliwell whos made one of the best hard house cds ive ever heard is coming out for sundissential soon.. on the smae weekend as kai tracid i think... both will be packed... and i tend to find in sydney people go of for them alkot harder then the euro trance djs.. just matter of preferance! but they are starting a euro trance night if its not already up in martin place at the dendy or something every month and if it gets enough support then it will go weekly so find out about it and support it if you wnat more euro trance!
