I doubt "design a new fucking interface, it's not 1999" would go down well.

LOL its not that bad man. Now, beatport's old interface, that was a tragedy. I find juno easy to customize. Their search function is spot on.

There are a few buggy behaviors but overall I dont think its a problem

What. Do you have any sense of aesthetics? I mean fuck, just look at how cluttered the god damn site is.

On the CD vs. vinyl version issue - from matthewtaylor (the echospace account on discogs)
quote:
I should also tell you the CD version features material which isn't included on the LP set but there's also a few songs on the vinyl edition which aren't on the CD.

Looking at some of the other posts, I found this (on the Cv313 album)
quote:
The music featured on the album and most of what's been released under the cv313 guise was material made in the 1990's. (1993-2000) Actually I was surprised to find out the Echospace label in itself has primarily been a platform for archived material the artist made in the 1990's, excluding a few remix projects.

Apparently the reason for the delay of the cv313 thing is that the old master tapes had to be restored. I think it's pretty amazing that so much of the Echospace stuff is shit from the 90's. Talk about being ahead of your time.

Just got through it for the first time. I feel like I'm having a fever (yeah, makes sense with 30 degrees at day) and am slightly drunk, but that's probably the right state to listen to this.

It's pretty much safe to say that this is Liumin remixed. Or rather Liumin (Original Mix), as it's been documented that this album consists of the original source material for Liumin. As soon as you listen to it, it becomes very apparent. I spotted a Liumin "sample" in pretty much every track, some tracks even are pretty much straight remixes/versions of Liumin tracks.

I think the intro/outro are the weakest tracks here, they lack the drive of the other tracks but also lack the epic ambient-ness you'd expect from an intro/outro. As for the best track, I think it's safe to say that the track before the outro (called Hydrodynamics on the vinyl version) is by far the best track here. Ridiculously fucking good track. I'm a bit sad though that there's no version of "Firefly", that was by far my favorite track on Liumin.

From what I've read so far, a lot of people are calling this album "hazy". It definitely feels like everything is constantly moving and floating around - every single element tends to get lost in the whole thing. Even the bass, previously the rock-solid fundament of Echospace tracks is often hard to make out and generally feels "distorted" - in the literal sense of the word. Even with 10 minute long tracks it was often hard for me to memorize the bass pattern or I felt like it was changing, when it wasn't in reality.

Overall, it very much so sounds like what it is: an unprocessed Liumin. There's something very primal about this whole thing. Primal as in pure, unprocessed sounds. They're shaping something out of raw, unprocessed sound and field recordings and smash it right in your face. Rod Modell has often stated that he likes sounds and field recordings more than actual music and this album is defnitely the farthest they've gone away from having an album composed of music and the closest they've come towards having an album made of pure sound.

So yeah, that's my initial review. I hope my rambling makes at least some sense.

That's a fucking awesome review. I agree 100%. The elements are shifty like he was just slowly cranking knobs and let rip in a live jam session.

Which track is the one that is the first one on the side labeled "B". Its fucking INSANE. The one with the cracked out minor-key melody?

Not shure what track you mean. I'd guess probably the BCN dub remix? Here's a list of the vinyl tracks with samples http://interstellarsounds.com/produ...t=0&bestsellers

Oh and fuck you. I wanted to be the first to review it on discogs

Meh, ordered the fucking thing just because of this limitation bullshit. Still have a tear in my eye from the last time something was limited to 300 copies, and I naively decided to wait a few days more.

Samples on the Interstellar website moderately excited me, and while I can see how this thing gave (dub) techno aficionados a regular Echospace boner, I don't think the response from the outside of the circle will be as flowery as it was for their first two albums. But we'll see.

On a side note, Shed's new one is out today and it sounds 3.5x better than this.

I disagree. This is one is going down in history my friend. Doesnt matter which circle you are in. The tracks arent even the same versions as Liumin (like woony said). Its more like Liumin traces.

I've been meaning to check that Shed today. Did you like the album before this one as well? Trying to see where your tastes lie.
