As some one pointed out earlier... as soon as the trance-impaired bigots (lol) hear an electronic bass drum instead of what they're used to, it turns them off. It's like me: as soon as i hear a really heavy guitar riff, i switch right off as well. But in general, i don't mind listening to different types of music once in a while. I believe it makes me appreciate the music I love even more.
It's just something about that really heavy guitar and the whole thrash metal thing. Ughhhh, especially the voice that makes the people sound like they're choking.

Here is my opinion. Most people on this earth are brainwashed zeolots and for the most part incredibly stupid. The end.

Most people hear the beat and say how do you listen to that, they dont really listen to the melodies and unique sounds which gives electronic music lovers the highs

wen i try to get my m8s (not tranceaddicts) to listen to trance, they dont wanna know, cos apparently its all the same, "all sounds shite to me", aaaggggghhhhhh, if they sat down and fully listened to a compilation cd or mix they mite actually understand why i luv it so much. wen they put rock music on i try and listen and sometimes quite like it, because i know wat its like wen people wont give it a chance. Borrowed one of my m8s politics of dancing the other day and thank god he has seen the light!
the thing is one of my m8s (who is now into rock) used to b into trance as much as i was, but now is really arrogant about it, and sez i only go clubbing cos of the fanny, like he gets it. i know for a fact he will like it again if he gave it a chance and gets it out of his head that its not total shite.

if more people would give it a chance and actually listen to a melody instead of turning it off before the intro is finished then they mite grow to like it.

but seems like these people dont know how to live life to its fullest.

Mick

I think musical arrogance is a prob a lot of people have period but I agree that for some reason a lot of people need music to have vocals to be able to enjoy it for some reason.

I don't think the commercialization point really applies to north america, because the stuff just isn't on the radio over here. And I don't think simply exposing people to "good" trance is the answer either. People either like the style, or they don't like the style. I could put together an 80 minute comp of trance anthems that everyone on here loves, but your average non-TA would probably pick out one or two songs that they liked, and consider the rest shite, or something akin to it. It just requires a certain taste.

Uninformed people *do* tend to hear the 4/4 beat, and focus on that instead of on the changing melody, and the emotion aspect of the tunes...I find most people who aren't into trance who I expose to new stuff like constantly changing tunes...like my pal Scott is into airdrawndagger, WoW, and stuff like Holden's Nothing (Mix 2) because of the way they don't focus on beat, and constantly change things up. Going beyond that into liking more "conventional" stuff is something that a lot of people just aren't able to do, it's just not something that takes them to that pinnancle that it takes us to; and has been said already, there's nothing wrong with that, there's plenty of room for all kinds of different music for different tastes...

Man, this is a great point that I hadn't even thought of...and it's so true.

People tend to be used to shorter tunes, and when you set them down with something like say "Gouryella-Gouryella", which takes 2.5 minutes to even get going, they tend to lose interest quickly.

That's why I've tried to explain to people before that you shouldn't *anticipate* a change, or be waiting for something with a trance song, you should just let the tune go where it's going to go, and let yourself flow right along with it...especially with more chilled stuff like Sunday Club and Chicane.

It's because the only so called "trance" they've heard is the shit that's played on the radio, and that's where they get the "trance sounds like BOOOM BOOM BAM BAM" sterio type. Oh well, they're missing out.
