This sort of shit only works if you actually are a lawyer and can name your firm you work for. Police spend a good deal of time in court houses. It isn't hard to tell when someone read your rights and what they mean to you : intro to law abridged with pictures. That or there are lots of witnesses. Unfortunately if you are alone , the police can and will do what ever they want which usually depends on how much of a douche bag you look like. Like do you look like the kind of person someone would pay to slap.

I find cops at least where i live pretty reasonable. As long as you are polite and just suck it up , you will be fine. Of course i'm not 18 and I look like I pay my taxes so perhaps i get treated better because i look like the kind of guy you would want to introduce to your sister and shit.

Well, I'm very glad that you weren't with me during my encounter. Showing him that I knew my rights, and very well, made him back off. There is a way of going about it, of course. You can't be a dickhead right back, although I was showing I was getting pretty agitated with the entire ordeal. But by that time, I was already talking to his supervisor, who I requested, and was let go.

I don't know the entire story, The fact that there was a supervisor on hand kinda gives me the idea you were in a safe environment where you getting punched with a flashlight because you acted aggressively towards the officer which his partner will confirm isn't something that would happen. The problem with people that think they know their rights is they don't account for the fact that police can and will create the reasons necessary to do what they want to do. Unless there are others around.

It doesn't matter how much you whine about them searching your pockets because they saw you throw something out of them. They can find just cause for just about anything. And you can cry about your rights but when it comes to the police and you, they will do what they feel they need to do and you do what they say. You can file a suit after the fact.

But why they would want to do that I think has more to do with how you represent yourself and how green the police officer is.

The supervisor actually wasn't on hand right away. I asked for his name because the two officers who pulled me over were breaking the law during the encounter and I called them out on it. They got scared and called him to talk with me because they obviously couldn't handle the situation properly. After talking with him and expressing to him my understanding of what my rights are and what they didn't have a right to do, he agreed to let us go on our way.

Now, had I been ignorant to everything that happened and what my rights are, these two idiots would have had a field day with me, my wife, and two friends who were in the car with me. NEVER let a cop search you or your property unless he or she has a warrent. That is opening up a can of worms that you do not want to deal with.

You had credible witnesses. I think it is a bit of both. You seem like someone that knows their rights but is also someone in good standing. But I would imagine the same story with 21 year olds might be different.

Like the guy in is video. Use that sort of rhetoric in a traffic stop at night and you will be given the full service treatment. Even if what was said unlike the video was true.

Anyways, congrats on taking on the man. I personally enjoy the submission. I get off on it.
