I'm 26. I've been listening to and producing electronic music since 1992. I started going to raves in 1993. At the time, it was a smaller community of people who genuinely gave a shit about the music and their fellow man. I've watched the scene in Toronto come out of the underground and go practically mainstream. When this happened, I will agree with you, Rave died. I never denied that. In Toronto, it happened in about '96-'97 with the major Jungle explosion. Around this time the atmosphere changed and it's been getting sketchier ever since. However, the remnants of the rave scene are still the only place I can go to hear the music that I love. (The music in Toronto clubs is simply not hard enough for me!)

I want to know if u experienced Rave in Europe in 94-96. Other than that, just cause some websiote tell u what rave culture "was" or "is" does nto mean that is how it was. I am speaking from waht I saw and felt when I was there. Would u rather have some1 tell u who was there how it was or some book or website?

I did not experience Raves in Europe in 94-96, although I wish I had! I don't need a website or a book to tell me what rave culture was. Just because my experience of rave culture differs from yours doesn't mean that mine is any less valid!

Ok ... this is funny... now E*Master you say that "Rave" music was started in 1994 right and the word "rave" should only associated with that style of music. If that's the case then explain why parties were called "Raves" in Europe during the late 80's, years before this "Rave" music was even around???

lol...Extasy started the rave movement, you can denie it all you want, but I was there. You can say natural high shit all you want, but we all know it's a load of crap.

The fun part of the early 90's was the E was a new drug, lots of people were trying it, and no one was saying it was bad for you. So you can say it was about the music all you want, to the majority of the people it was about the new high. Now like with any drug, people abuse it, sell it, and make bad batches, and it's not new and exciting anymore, hence, rave went down with it.

Probably not the best thing to say on a forum of people that use there computers everyday instead of getting out in the real world, but the truth hurts.

not too dark, it varried, but super fast, and did not sound like happy hardcore. Was Some was commercial but good. I also had a friend who made me a tape as well. Listen to "HArdcore vibes - dune", that is a good example. But there are some songs that were dark like "Droeste hoerst du mich? (german) - Mark 'oh", was a bit darker. I highly suggest the song "Raving in Mexico - Scooter" for the REAL harcore! That song drive me nuts!!!!!!!!!! As a matter of fact I am listening to it now!!!! That one was one of my favourite a long with a lot of one's that were not commercial whom's names I don't remember. But I have a lot of good memories of this. Remember Giving these songs back in Highschool to ppl, including mecha.

Agreed. Should have said all this b4 I went on jeez at least i know now where u are coming from. Btw thank you for telling me how that stuff started here. I know in 96-97 was when I heard of it coming here and Ir ecal wathcing EC and actually see a video from scooter of a song called "I'm raving" (which did not AT ALL sound like rave). lol, I recall Monica Deol saying "this one is for all u raver's out there". I almost threw something at the Tv.
I never said ur info was invalid, I just really think that the rave Nation was greatly misintreprided when it came here.

btw I attached a sample of rave as I remember it.....

Wow, it looks like I'm not the only one who thinks that E*Master is talking a lot of BS. I totally agree with XLS that he is confusing rave music with rave culture.

E*Master, you don't know everything about raves. Just because you went to one in Europe a long time ago, doesn't make you an expert. If you had gone to tons a parties here in T.O and the surrounding area, I might consider some of the ridiculous things you've been saying.

Oh, and you still haven't answered my question. Seeing that you're a self-proclaimed ex-raver, have you been to any parties in T.O and how many???

I'm a partier, I have been to one rave when I first started partying a few years ago, it was alright...too bad I missed the larger ones at the CNE...I listen to eletronic tunes and party @ clubs or wherever there is that style of music. That's why I'm a partier.

I have not been to a "rave event" in TO for 2 reasons. A.) I don't like all ages events. (No offence to the under 19 TA crowd intended) b.) No offence but I don't feel like being at an event where I am surrounded by a bunch of kids on E acting in the most rediculous ways. I come to that conclusion because I have a friend in college who is an "EX- TO RAVER" who was into this whole shit. The whole idea of seeing ppl so tripped out on E that they lose control over themselves really does not appeal to me thank you. I know this does not happen at all events but I don't even wish to take the risk to see that.

I talk BS? lol funny. For your info I went to more than 1 rave. I went to a lot in Germany and 2 in Holland. Now let me ask you something? Did you ever go to ANY raves in Europe? Did u experience Rave nation? I also never said I was an "expert". I am just telling you what the real deal was over there.
