Oooooooh ok I misunderstood your idea of an administration fee. No, they don't make you pay before the event. They just take a part of the fee. They don't find bookings for me, I work events for them. It's not an agent so yes there is kind of a difference.

so you find your own events and give them money to do so? just buy a cheap portable dj rig and you will make more even if you don't know how to mix.

just for fun, what would you play at a wedding? i need to know, because the noob is strong in you. i'm a condescending asshole by nature, by i am actually trying to help you, because you are most likely young, dumb, and fodder for the jackals.

also, if you are considering actually doing this for a long time....don't cheap out. you will never be able to resale used bottom line gear and it will just be more expensive in the long run. if you can't afford it, save up. it is worth it.

Lol I mistyped. They do find events for me, but not in the sense that I'm an independent guy. I would use their gear and be representing them. Basically it's like this, if you booked double your current number of events, you hire me to do some of them and take half right off the top. Any weekend that I don't have my own gigs, I work for you. Get it?

At weddings I would cater to the whole crowd. Start with some fun stuff like the twist for the old people. Move on to some stuff like the love shack. Later play top 40 shit. Why, what do you play???

Btw in Michigan anyway, mixing isn't that popular at weddings. I've never been to one where they mixed actually. In my opinion that's just a bonus, but he main job of a wedding DJ is to be the MC. I work with a DJ that's been in business for 25 years once in a while and he seems to think that most people don't even really appreciate mixing and fancy tricks... They want to sing along and not have the music get all changed up.

But I want to learn to mix so I can have the option, so I can learn a new hobby, and so it opens the option of playing at clubs and eventually so I can have a basis to learn production.

I have my own "rig". JBL speakers, lights, etc. I just don't have a software controller. So I am a jukebox. I started this with money from graduation, so I didn't have the time to learn or the money to afford a controller. Now I do. But I don't book that many events and I'd like to learn more under this business while they find me events and stuff so then jll be better equipped to do things on my own

i actually had the intention of teaching you something, but i decided against it.
