Great advice to this guy, but the genre of music lacks importance. Plus, if you haven't noticed, most people in the production forum don't even like trance. Mostly because it's for 37 year old Dutch guys who can't dance and lacks the groove and sex appeal that house music has.

There is a distinct difference between the output quality of an onboard soundcard and a half decent audio interface. More so when you have decent monitors and a room you can actually hear stuff in.

But mainly it's latency, and onboard soundcards via ASIO4all is not a good solution.

A decent soundcard is important, but in Craigs situation I think a computer, daw and headphones will be enough in the very beginning.

I think you can say, don't buy anything before you realise that you need it, and why.
