If you don't know that track is because you are too old and mostly because you are from the US (Won't blame you for your ignorance then). This track is a rework of a very very famous "classic" anthem of a club from Spain east coast and Ibiza "Coco Loco" which also throws parties in Italy btw and the track is famous.

This rework stayed on beatport global top 10 for some weeks which adds some extra hype to the record (which does not imply quality) this track is commercial, is not top 40 pop house but serves as a track to change from something a bit underground to something more easy going and commercial.

Of course it has a bassline are you listening to it on a cheap laptop? Lol at that statement is just ridiculous.

About the track being electro or deep house i won't discuss any genreing discussion starts being stupid and ends being just silly there's no point but given that the dj played deep house,it is released on a deep house label and in my books this is not the typical electro track i'd say this is more deep house than electro sir.

The target of a dj is making your audience happy trying not to suck very much in objective terms, if you can have an uneducated crowd fist pumping to dubfire and john digweed records it's great you are meeting both targets but it's more relevant to keep them happy.

In this case the transition from one track to other started to fill the dancefloor again and by 10 minutes people were into the set and clearly enjoying what came out of the speakers.

I think you definitely need to judge the reaction of the crowd to your music carefully, because in some cases, 98% of the crowd is having a good time, but you'll still get those 2-3 people who are clueless and will come up to you and ask you to play something else.

You need to know when they are wrong, and when you are wrong, and deal with it accordingly.

I had a bunch of people come up to me this weekend at the after hours club. Most of them were either just saying hello and wanted to check out the setup, or said they were digging the music.

And then there were the other people.

"Dude great job." (slipping me a hand written note). On the note? "Can you please play U2 or red hot chili peppers". At an afterhours underground electronic music venue.


"Do you know that song? It goes like la la boom boom la la la"

"Hey I just got here from like an hour away and I want to dance, can you play something with a really huge drop? I really want to go hardcore."

I simply smile and try to be nice. There are cases where the customer is not always right...

it's impossible to have 100% of the people happy even if you are playing the right genre for them there are tracks that aren't their cup of tea and would be wishing you to change the track asap but you have to keep the things going if you react to what people demand every moment you are being a jukebox.

As for red hot,U2 or any other famous rock band i have a bootleg in almost every genre for the most known songs. Is there a problem if you are playing underground tech house and instead of percussion and hats in a breakdown you start hearing "otherside" ? Not really it always works well it's something unexpected that followed by a big drop shouldn't kill the mood.

90% of time people are wrong but you can make a few extra folks happy if you do this while keeping the rest fine. I've even seen a dj play a vals in the middle of a set that was hilarious
