not saying this event wont be great, we dont know yet..
i just dont think their comments and their line-up this year arent making much sense

This years lineup? If you're comparing it to Tomorrowworld than I'm not sure if that's a good comparison.

Yeah, that and mysteryland seem to have completely different philosophies.

http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2013...woodstock-site/

"Mysteryland isn’t focused on what most Americans know as EDM – the energetic, crossover genre favored at Electric Daisy events that Mr. Stutterheim says amounts to “a modern version of pop music.” Instead, Mysteryland showcases some 20 different styles of electronic music, like trance and house, many of which emerged as a backlash against pop music, he said.

A good part of the budget for Mysteryland will also be spent on theater, movies, interactive installation art, street performers and “bizarre” stage decoration, he said, as opposed to celebrity-DJ salaries."

Yea, that's why the 2012 lineup (In Holland no less) featured:

Fedde
Avicii
Martin Solveig
Hardwell
Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike
Chuckie
Porter Robinson
Zedd

...real underground.

I'm not cherry picking. I'm saying if that's their main stage, how can they say it is like "antipop" come on now

Edit: ok maybe I was cherry picking but the point remains

Read what I quoted again. he never says anything about the festival being antipop or not bringing any pop music at all. He says the festival will mostly be made up of music that isn’t what Americans have come to know as EDM. Then goes on to say how such genres such as trance and house originally emerged as a backlash against pop music(oh how things have changed)

Look, at the end of the day the company needs to at least break even in order to continue doing events. They aren't going be able to fill woodstock without bringing a little bit of something for that pop heads will like. As much as i hate shit like Avicci, if having him there will cause some people to be exposed and therefor come to like non pop electronic music then it's worth it. Even the underground raves of the 90's had pop acts once in a while. FFS, Day in the Park rave at six flags in '97 had Dee Lite, the epitome of pop house.

So, how does that math work?

If expenses for Mysteryland are $10 mil, at 20k per day capacity that's $165/day.

Yeah, Zoo is pulling that much in it seems, but can a new festival like Mysteryland do that, when other camp-festivals charge hardly more for the full 3-day package?

Remains to be seen, but somehow 200-250 for the 3-day pass seems more appropriate = $5

Where's the revenue stream for the organisers to come from that makes up the diff?
Vendor fees or merch?
cut of the booze?
can't see it.

I'm sure they make millions on merch/food/drinks. Plus they are bankrolled by a multi million dollar company. Either way I'm sure they will be making money. Pretty sure they looked into that...
