First of all, pizzas were not originally round.. Pizzas being just a loaf of breat with lunch leftovers on it, the food of poor italian peasants...
Second, the greatest invention must be the writing (where would we be without it now?), and the most "interesting" from now on is quantum physics, particularly in the field of quantum computing (a CPU capable of non-determenistic parallel calculations? Godly!).... Another personal favorite of mine would be Alain Turing Machine, which was a very advanced theoretical concept back before the existance of "electronic calculating machines" (computers) as such...
