If you actually step outside of the Toronto area or Vancouver, its not very multicultural at all. But I think its a change in the better direction. It wasn't too long ago that I was teased for being asian and had ignorant comments made towards me. Nowadays, the schools are multicultural in my area, and race is hardly a negative issue any more.

YOu weren't around when the "referendum" failed to pass? The separatists have no understanding what they do has an impact on Canada's global market value: CDN Currency. We havne't recovered since that stupid referendum. OUr CDN $.78- $.85 before, after it was $.60-$.67! We're still taking a licking..

Self-serving interests of those so-called separatists give every Canadian a headache.

you're half right about the exchange rate issue...

it went down when the referendum was around. BUt the thing is it never really recovered since the "NO" won and economy supposedly got better etc etc... this leads me to think that it wasn't related to each other. the currency exchange rate is pure speculation. I think it serves some people's interest to keep the dollar value down... I can't elaborate on it tho.

in the middle of the gulf war the dollar was high as 91 cents american... but since then it went down the hill. with the referendum it went down again and again.... the "no" won, it went up temporarly but pursued its crash....

while the economy grew stronger and stronger from 1999 the dollar never really went up because of this... normally you would expect a currency to go down when the economy is bad and up when the economy is good. Canada has the hottest economy in the G8 even the FMI and world bank are unanimous about it ... but why then the dollar isn't up? well its because speculation owns everything and anything... some people don't like canada and wants it currency to stay down. weaker currency means foreign companies can take over canadians one.

Don't believe that BS about it helps exportation... its total BS, no one wants his currency to be weak, maybe only the liberal party in power now.

the highest point for the canadian dollar was in 72 i think, it was stronger than the US dollar, it was one canadian dollar for 1.02 USD. But since then, it is all downhill....
