I was gonna put the Breeder mix of Planet Perfecto early on in my set, vocals can really start a mix well...
Trancey Ash, don't be too worried about what people think of your mix. Personal satisfaction should be your main priority, other people's should come next. One thing about being successful with dj-ing that I've found, is that early on, we need to make do with what we have and may the best come from it. We can't expect to have every single record, however, I would much rather prefer a 1 hour mix of wicked tunes, mixed well together in a way that the energy is building throughout the set, rather than having a mix with little tunes in between good tunes that just seem to fill gaps.
Besides, its a one hour mix (roughly) you'd want to play your best tunes in the limited space of time, rather than drag them out over 90min to 2 hours...
Don't succumb to the will of the general consensus, play what your comfortable with playing, and then you're a true artist, not a cop out like many of the commercial jocks we loathe on these boards...
