btw did anyone bother reading the whole thing? Its not about quality of life, but more about how easy it is for strangers to establish themselves in a given city...
... if it was only for the quality of life I wonder if that many Canadian cities would be in the top 10, if any...
tru .. but then when u look at it, there are a lotta other cities that would fall below us than above us .. so hey it could always be worse. Personally, we're far from perfect, but when you compare to say a lotta US cities.. we're quite thankful!

compared to a lot of US cities, yeah, Toronto is better, compared to other world cities, nah... can't come close.

yep it depends on the lifestyle you want to live in ... if you prefer european life style, not one north american city comes close, maybe Montreal, but only a bit... but if you love american lifestyle i would say that toronto are way ahead of any US city, Chicago and Miami aren't that bad either
i'm TO is a lot more European than most American cities tho .. altho i hear New Orleans feels quite European ..
those southern cities like Miami definately know how to party it up tho.. i always like cities with a Latin flavour and feel ..

San Fran is also somewhat european.
I went to toronto a few months ago I was there for a weekend and I was so honestly shocked and dissapointed with the night life.. We walked around at 10 oclock and everyone was already packing it in. Young street was deserted when I got out of the club at 2 or 3.. Whereas even here in ottawa the market is buzzing all night (and believe me ottawa is probably the worlds most boring city) Don't even get me started about the women. I am sorry toronto but you have so many ugly ass women. After walking around downtown for a few hours the good looking women were a dime a dozen.. I know I know.. I just have to know where to look right? Ya well you torontonians should take a walk down St. Catherine's street in montreal and find me an ugly girl. And they all have class too.. Not these dirty north american 'skater girls' but well dressed, intelligent and fun.
Anyway, Im not going to judge a city's quality of life based on the night life. If you want a nice city to raise a family there are few in this world like ottawa. Any canadian city is great for that matter.
Actually Malek you are quite wrong about canadian cities and quality of life. There have been many studies done about quality of life. I think one is even done by the UN where vancouver and montreal both ranked VERY high. I think toronto was back in the middle of the pack though. Anybody who thinks they are really lacking in that area should really get out and travel. And not just to friendly tourist attractions that governments spend millions to clean.. but to the innercities.. Cities like london and paris have very high crime rates not much unlike large american cities.

you've got a point .. i agreee and disagree with a lotta things, but i'm just too lazy to make a long post right now. So to make a long story short:
1. Standard of living is good in Canada as well as Toronto.
2. Toronto may not have a great nightlife but it depends on your background. Most people on TA are of European descent so yea itz lagging, but if ur Asian it's pretty hot here depending on where in the city you live.
3. I remember that U.N. study on quality of life. I think Canada once ranked #2 and Norway #1. Either way if you look at it we actually have a faster growing economy right now compared to the U.S. and a better jobless rate compared to that of many E.U. countries.
4. Leafs don't seem to be going anywhere, but hey neither are the Sens, Habs, and Canucks !!
(And hey we still got the Raps and Jays)

Are you dissin the Canucks?!
Bertuzzi owns j00!
You know, we should do a lot less yakkin, and just look back at the fact that Canada is a fucking awesome place to live in. Think of other countries and their problems. Now look at Canada. What do we have to complain about? The details. Other countries are all shited up. Not us. For a country from North America, we're doing pretty good competing with the rest of the world.
Having been raised in Vancouver for the past 12 years (much much better than the Philippines, although I stilll love that place) I could honestly say I would be happy spending my life here, raising a family etc.
Can't say much about the party scene yet though, I'm still underage!
but still, all us Canadians should just give each other some cross-country pat on the back.
