Same here, I recently listened to some tracks I made years ago. At the time I thought they were good, but since they didn't conform to the current trends I wrote them off as unreleasable weirdness. I now realize their value, some of the most creative work I've done.

I never hate anything I produce, but sometimes I do think "I'll never do that again." That mostly happens when I try to stick with the musical trends and play by the rules. Too much Protocol radio will do it. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but too many 16 bar pitch benders wears on the nerves. I don't want to be that guy. Never hurts to try new things though, I never fault myself for that.

Always end up disappointed, so the quest goes on.

I have concluded I need a break away from each project of a few weeks or months to gain perspective and work out which tracks are worth finishing.

I think I have about 3 in this category.



I have a major flaw whereby I flit about, one week loving DnB, the next Techno and end up being a jack of all trades master of none.

I'm like this in the rest of life.

I GET QUITE JEALOUS OF PEOPLE THAT FOCUS ON JUST ONE HOBBY / INTEREST / PASSION, because history often shows it is these super on task people that make a difference.



These are my current hobbies and interests - what a mess eh;


+ Bread making - so many variables, and each loaf is never what I had hoped for.

+ MMA training

+ playing football (badly)

+ Wildlife / great outdoors - I feel ill if I spend too long inside

+ One off projects - the other month I came home from work and dug and made a wildlife pond even as it got dark.
More recently I decided I had to get a wood burner and then spent weeks wandering about gathering old wood. Then had to make this alpine style wood shelter for drying it.


+ Film watching

+ Film making

+ Politics - I love it and find each day very exciting because of this


On top of this running a business and always trying to make the best family life possible.

same here im all over the place when it comes to making music i have tried to stay in one area but i get bored
and want to make something else.

Everything takes time don't expect it all to come to you right away and I know you probably don't, but we all have our creative spark now and then. Don't get frustrated it's only going to make it harder, if you get to that point just breathe and take a break and think about ideas on how to approach it differently, if you're not writing anything good then maybe perhaps try working on musical theory?

I have released my first EP last year without any knowledge on music theory because I came from a guitar playing background and believe me, even then I have NEVER used theory in playing guitar and I have been playing almost my entire life, I actually tried to study theory once or twice and stopped because it didn't appeal to me at all...

Ok...back to about my EP though, seriously I switched over to producing from playing guitar in 2012 so I didn't know what I was doing really I just let my instincts guide me and to this day I still think my release is crap because it has no mastering whatsoever hehe..

Just don't regret any releases, I don't even regret the release of my EP because all in all you should learn from earlier mistakes and that should make you a better and stronger producer so later on you can look at the do's and don'ts from your last release...

Moral of the story... no matter WHAT type of music you produce, you are going to have followers no matter how bad you may think it is, just cause it isn't gold to you doesn't mean it isn't gold to another person, right?

Stay positive bro, never be negative about your music because that will really make things harder, even if there are negatives always look for the positive in the negatives, never say you can't because saying you can't is what will hold you back from achieving your goals and dreams... afterall...
