i guess it all depends on what course you take at college or university...im taking the computer programmer course @ seneca @ york and its not an easy course at all! it takes a lot of time just to code stuff and there are other classes you have to deal with, not only one! most colleges have 3 year courses now, even that once you finish college you can go for post-graduate status at a university and do 2 more years to come a bachelor of the degree you want
so for me ill say their equal...universities want lots of money, college's not that much...york uni & seneca @ york combined together has a ratio girl to guy ratio 60/40 (if your concerned Liam )

I don't know what college is like from personal experience, but I've heard from some friends that it's very useful later in the industry you take up..
U of T, on the other hand, I know.. it's very dull and monotonous. The professors don't know how to lecture. I still haven't had an interesting prof and already went through about 18 courses.
Those that get a university degree will proceed with ease to some research or academic positions because they deal with a lot of theory. But the real jobs.. I don't know. It gives you advantage for sure because employers love to see a university diploma, but they'll have to train you from scratch..

yes i admitt, waterloo isnt exactly the party school, people are very focused - its a tough school to begin with,
but like Iliya (Durafei) said you can make your own fun there... yes there are alot of geeks and nerds and dorks that study all the time, but there are also many that like to party too..... i go to the bomber every wednesday night!
but what i like about waterloo that is different from some other schools is that it ain't a fashion show... and almost everybody talks to everybody......

as for the difference between University and College
University= Degree - more theory, jazz like that
College= Diploma - more hands on, specific

to sum it up: college is good for certain fields that university can't prepare you for.
college is also good for post-grad programs.

I dunno about everybody talking to everybody. what I don't like here is that there is too much competition. in CS nobody wants to help anybody cause if you help somebody, they might end up taking your job or something like that.
But it is true, that community in this university is probably much stronger than at any other university..

Well I am not trying to say that one is any better than the other nor am I trying to brag buy but I just finished college last year and make a shade over 60K (and if you are a pessimist I’ll even show you my pay stub). Moreover many of my friends that went to university in an arts type program are still looking for work.

I’ll give you that professional degrees from university are extremely valuable (engineer, MD, accountant, ect.) but once you are out in the real world for 5 years its not where you went to school but what you learned from work, how you manage people, resources, and yourself that is going to get you ahead.

I don't think we can really justify if one type of educational institution is better than others. It all depends on our ability to learn and adapt to new things. Those who can adapt in different ways see University as a choice whiile others see College as a preference. Some welcome the challenge of theory, while others require more hands on techniques because of their learning habits. But when its all said and done, you can't go wrong. I would rather be in one of those institutes than sit at home and blame myself and society for not continuing my education. We should be proud and blessed of wether or not we are either in College or University. Its the choices we make that directs us to one of those. The Demon has Spoke

Do you go to College/University to learn about skills that you will use for your career or do you go there to learn about what life has to offer.

Or better yet, what would you rather do? Study to become a worker, or study to become something more...

Thats what separates the two.
