Last year was my first time, and everyone told me to get a hotel as close as possible or atleast walking distance. Its totally worth it as most after parties also being a few minutes away. 8 miles seem pretty far to travel every night as most cabs will have their meters turned off and charge you anything they want. Unless your hotel has a free shuttle

Definitely get a hotel walking distance. This is where you spend the most of your day. Plus, you can always meet new friends at the hotel and split cabs to the after parties with them. The walk after the festival always seems farther lol

I've stayed at so many hotels. Hilton garden inn is my fav now.

If you bought VIP tickets, they'll send you an email in the near future with a discount to book rooms at the Westin.

Last year we stayed at Crowne Plaza across the street from Hart Plaza. It was super convenient leaving for a quick minute to make drinks in the room and returning. This year reserved a place at DoubleTree Suites by Hilton 0.3 mile away which is 1 minute further. VIP is the way to go for this festival.

Yeah I agree, you should cancel that hotel and get something within walking distance. Other than the hassle of trying to get to and from your hotel every day, the cost of doing such will be quite a bit too. Even if you use something like Uber, that'd still be about 17 bucks each way. So add on another $100 to your hotel expense. And that doesn't even include transportation to afterparties if you so desire to do those.

All the Movement related afterparties and people will be in a relatively small downtown area. Being 8 miles away wouldn't be much fun.

And to go off-topic for a moment, again, has anyone ever been to Lyon, France? I know that area of the world is knee-deep in good electronic music. Their house music cathedral appears to be Le Sucre, looks fucking amazing. Warehousey and modern. Beginning stages of planning out my big trip (aside from BPM) for 2015 and Lyon, France looks like a bad-ass place to stay for two weeks or so, when you combine the food, culture, music, history, countryside, and girls.

I've stayed at double tree too! I love it there but Holton Garden Inn is my boyfriends spot but I love the restaurant down below. Good food.

I actually had more fun hanging out with people back at the hotel after the festival was done for the night than doing any of those afterparties.

But other than the clubs, Movement is a blast.

Can someone speak more about the afterparties...? I'm more of a small venue type-of-guy, and was going to the festival, but really looking forward to the afterparties. The lineups from this year looked great! Wasn't there also an amazing party (albeit in the day) at Old Miami on the Monday with Dixon, Tennis, Martinez Brothers?

I've been to several Detroit afterparties at various clubs/venues and quite frankly those places are of terrible quality in my opinion. The lineups are great but you're partying in a shithole with little/no AC, horrible sound in a space that looks like something from 1987. Admittedly many people have given good reviews for these parties but if you're spoiled from the places in Miami like I am you won't like it. A lineup means jack if the venue blows.

Thanks for the response, that helps. Just so I'm clear, when you say spoiled by places in Miami, are you referring to the Pickle, Treehouse, Space, etc... Or LIV, Mansion type?

Any of them. Those places are all pretty much world-class venues in their respective "categories." I.e. they are done right. People that like the underground vibe think Treehouse (and now Trade) is amazing, others whom are into the models/bottles scene say LIV is the best, etc.

In Detroit all the venues, regardless of the type of venue, are just shit.
