The problem is what sensorium touched on; it's the training. The issue is that the police have gradually been allowed more and more lenience when it's come to excessive or fatal force, the argument being it's a dangerous job and someone should never fight back to a police officer.

Unfortunately, Police officer is not even in the top 10 of dangerous jobs in the US, and even then the vast majority of police officer deaths (according to the bureau of statistics) occurred in routine traffic accidents, not in Miami vice style shoot outs or high speed car chases.

But there's been an erosion in what standards are required for a officer involved shooting. Basically, the cop is in the clear if the victim puts his hand in the wrong place or basically does anything other than what the officer instructs.

Lethal force has become a viable response to just about any form of resistance. Don't get me wrong, a police officer asks me to do something - i'll do it and real slow, but check the videos of police shooting people at traffic stops.



However, you'd think it was the number one dangerous if you look at the militarization of most municipal police forces in the USA. I was driving past the CHP HQ station last week on my way to Santa Barbara and the had: Tanks. Two Police Tanks. I don't mean amoured vehicles. I mean full on tanks.

The bias needs to shift from police being able to shoot someone for just the possibility of threat, to only using a lethal force when their lives are in danger. It's actually how the law is currently but the lax approach to officer inlvolved shooting liability has all but given them blanket protection.

Wow, story get's weird now.

It turns out the guy that was shot, was wanted on probabtion violations following release from his 2000 Bank robbery conviction and pistol whipping sentence.

Where it gets strange is that he went to prison under the name Robinet but after over 10years in jail, they found out it wasn't his real name and he had stolen the identity of a french citizen who lived briefly in the sates in the late 90's.

So normally when someone is released after serving time for a phelony, they are deported back to their country but France wouln't take him as he wasn't a french citizen.

They actually don't know exactly who he his and have to refer to him as the man living under the assumed name Robinet.

All they know is that he had serious mental issues and held up the bank to pay for his Acting Classes at Beverly Hills Playhouse
