Just different perspectives. For example I find completely uninteresting what you mentioned cause I think the answer of those is pretty much definite. It won't reveal anything I'd find value in. A re-discussion of the clap in itself on the other hand touches the foundations of that concept and the answer isn't definite. What does it provide? Is it necessary? Is it always a plus or could it deduct? It's like someone who's more interested in the "how" and someone like me who'd like to question the "why".

You're talking me about "groove" and I'm asking if that's even necessary or needed.

I'm not going to touch everything else that's been said, but I will mention a pet peeve of mine.

Tracks that start out with only the kick and then introduce the clap halfway through the climax of the tune only for the sake of change. You can do it if you introduce another element that drives the track forward but often times I feel like it makes the track loose it's forward drive.

Brilliant!

But you left me out - "a clap is like cookery".

Dance music without a backbeat to me , that i don't fucking get. I mean i think people that do that are rhythmically challenged. YOu will never hear a 70s funk classic with the emphsis on 1 and 3. There are 0 tracks and if there was an era and musician profile that understood groove, it would be those guys. And you don't get it. Like you don't find it once.

Thats why adding it later is so effective because it is shit until it is there. But this is comming from a guy who went to events back in the day were dancing was something people did. The flailing people do now ... i mean i don't know first hand but from videos, people just wave their phones and jump.

I think dance tracks that don't have a backbeat feel faster, somehow.
