you sound like you are way in over your head, you need to do some research on basic audio flow or else you will end up buying stuff you dont need

how would you delay a pulse 2, connections-wise? i'm hoping you i don't need an audio interface for this?

what kind of a usb midi device? there are so many different kinds of midi devices for different purposes. do you mean a midi controller? midi devices send/receive midi data so stuff like a midi keyboard to play piano keys, midi controllers with pads for drums or triggering samples, and so on.

an audio interface like the type that we've been mentioning is so that you can send audio from your hardware synth to your DAW. that way you can use the 1/4" L+R audio interfaces from your synth to plug into the audio interface which then sends the audio to your computer over USB. you'll want an audio interface that is also a midi device as well. it'll have 2 midi ports for in/out. this way you can use your hardware synth/etc as a midi controller as well as vice versa - using your DAW to control your hardware synth for automation of parameters (filters/etc) as well as triggering notes... IE: composing a melody in your DAW's piano roll so your hardware synth plays the notes you created in your DAW.

a general midi device is just that... for midi only, not audio. but it depends on what device you bought exactly. hope this helps.

i am getting it to update firmware, but it should have other uses for getting audio into DAW?

i just looked up the Roland UM-ONE and saw it had 2 MIDI cables on one end (one MIDI cable for MIDI IN port of your synth, the other MIDI cable for the MIDI OUT port of your synth)... then a USB cable on the server side to plug into your computer. i've never used a Roland UM-ONE before but judging by the looks of it, it'd be fine for transmitted data to/from your laptop to synth and vice versa, synth to laptop. so you can use your synth as a midi controller for your laptop and you can also use your laptop to control the synth, which is necessary for automating your hardware synth from within your DAW and also necessary to send midi notes from the laptop to the synth, that way you can compose a melody in the piano roll of your DAW and have your synth play it. all that stuff is communicated as MIDI data, so it looks like you're good in that regard.

but you'll still need an audio interface. they're usually a little box that has 1/4" TRS audio jacks in it which receive audio from your hardware synth. you have two 1/4" audio cables going from the audio output jacks on your hardware synth, to the audio input jacks on the audio interface. the audio interface should have a USB port as well, so you can connect it to your laptop via USB. so when you play sounds on your hardware synth, the audio is output to the audio interface over two 1/4" cables, which then sends the audio to your laptop over the usb cable. the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is a bare bones, entry-level audio interface and it runs around ~$150 USD. it has 2 audio inputs (they can be used as XLR or 1/4" TLS) and a USB port. it has 2 audio outputs on the back so you can run it to monitor speakers if you want.

or you could get the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 for ~$175 USD, which adds MIDI IN/OUT ports on the rear, but you don't really need that since you have the Roland UM-ONE to take care of transmitted your MIDI data. hope this helps.
