That is true, but think of the non-bullied kids as the closest we can get to a control group: The bullied kids were 43% of all the total population.
It's very unlikely that all these kids were fat - only 13% of kids were overweight in 1993, so I assume the percentage was even smaller in 1958, when the study started (I couldn't find any numbers for the 50's, sorry). Still, obesity was 7% more common among bullied women and 4% more common among men. Statistically, obese children who slimmed down after being bullied must've been outliers, rather than part of a trend.
