I don't think it's unreasonable to speculate that this has more to do with Sasha's falling out with Digweed rather than some kind of mutual rift. Sasha's been a notoriously high maintenance diva since at least Delta Heavy, whereas Digweed by many accounts is as every bit as laid back as his mid 2000's beach-bum haircut would suggest, and you can even sense that in the interview- Sasha takes a passive aggressive jab at Digweed, Digweed basically replies with 'huh?', and moves right along with his life.

personally i don't normally listen to the songs john plays but when he DJs it sounds pretty good to me. i think the worst I've seen him was 7.5/10.

from my encounters seeing sasha he's been good about half the time, and maybe the best I've seen him live id give an 8-9/10.

some of that elitist techno scene stuff is rubbing down to other sub-genres, where the label or artist has to be uncommon and vinyl only or complete trash. IMO john deserves his popularity and ill continue to see him DJ as he's yet to disappoint (although I've focussed mostly on techno for the past few years).

side note: ill never understand ricardo villalobos... the onetime i went to see him he was too fucked up to beat match and mix, and too fucked up to realize it. fool was dancing by himself behind the decks when half the people stopped dancing and started shouting at him LOL. i hear sasha gets pretty fucked up on occasion still too

In all honesty, his style isn't too unlike the Innervisions stuff. But he's a more well-rounded DJ and is more prone to play "outside the box" than even guys like Dixon. Deeper repertoire. In my opinion, statements like yours are usually made by people whom have biased preconceptions of a DJ and their music. Usually easier to write off than it is actually objectively listen to the music...

Of course if you flat out don't like the sound, fine, but c'mon don't dismiss it because it's not your cup of tea.

If you look through dj christian's post history you can go back literally three years without finding a single post where he has anything positive to say about any contemporary music. It probably goes much further, I just bored of looking. The guy is the absolute epitome of the jaded TranceAddict wanker who turns up entirely to complain about how shit music is.

Was that back when Digweed basically brought him into The Hacienda? I had no doubt that this reputation preceded him well before Delta Heavy, but the DVD admission was just a convenient way to timestamp it, and is still to say nothing of his contractual violations of the tour, like playing out on nights that were outside of the agreement.

Er... no. John Digweed had no association with Hacienda to my knowledge. He was promoting his own nights in Hastings, which is about 300 miles away from Manchester. Sasha was playing Hacienda in 1988 when he lived next door to Jon Da Silva. If anything, Sasha brought Digweed to Renaissance in 1992/3, which was the beginning of Diggers' rise to prominence.

Ive heard similar stories about what you recalled. He has a nickname , "ibiza bad boy" for a reason. Ive never seen him perform but when i think about it, i wonder if it is something like Troxler tanked and full 'tard' behind the decks that infamous video .

But , supposedly when he not wacked out of his mind, he is really something special.

Seth Troxler actually cares about the crowd he's playing in front of. Ricardo is the quintessential douchebag. His fandom consists almost entirely of douchey hipster types. Match made in heaven. Saw Ricardo play at DEMF in 2011 and he -- I swear -- purposely played boring bullshit meandering tech house his entire set. It went nowhere. It was raining and he had an early evening slot on the main stage. People were cramming in the rain (all the other stages had some sort of cover) to catch him for a rare set in the U.S. and he laid a giant turd. Fuck that guy. Heard similar stories about other gigs he's played too. In fact, saw him for about 20 minutes halfway through his set at Into the Valley in Sweden last August and it was the same sort of crap. Went to the smaller stage to catch Aril Brikha who was just killing it. Best decision of the weekend.
