Big companies like korg and roland sell to casuals to make money, its not exactly rocket science.

Its a shame they couldn't program it to sound more like an og 303, thats what irks me; do they not have the programming ability?

Contrary to popular belief, there is still not enough computing power to accurately model analogue gear.

Both Spectrasonics and U-he have both talked about there maybe being enough grunt in a desktop PC to render a reasonably accurate single analogue voice in the next 5-10 years. Right now you're just getting a snapshot of what an analogue circuit does at any given time, and it's the variables that create the sound. LFO drift on pitch is just the tip of the iceberg.

Both interviews I recall, one was Urs at a German synth wank-a-thon and the other was Eric Persing.....perhaps talking to Nick Batt.

If you can find them could you please post them, thanks.

I've always been interested in programming(fucked up, but I sometimes dream of synthesizer possibilities), never had the balls to start.

I honestly can't remember where I saw them, but I'm now pretty sure both of them were on the Sonic State youtube channel. Interviews with Urs Heckmann and Eric Persing should be easy to spot among the other vids.

I have it on good authority that one of the best ways to start to learn how to code synths etc is to build them in Reaktor first, and/or MAX MSP

You may already know this, but there's a code/dsp section at KVR where you can ask questions and be talked down to by some assholes.

I'm by no means an authority on the subject, but to my ears there's still a significant difference between the sound of a plugin and hardware. I'm not saying better or worse, just different.

There's a dude on Youtube called Firechild and he has THE nicest selection of analogue gear I've seen. He does some wonderfully cheesy Euro pop demos of the gear. If you listen to those demos, and then listen to the demo he did with Diva you'll hear a sudden loss of 'something'. It's not that it's bad, but to me it sounds flat.

I think it was Urs from U-he that said the physical act of electricity moving along wires does something that they can't model in software yet, it's too complicated.

Of course 99% of people don't give a crap, so it really doesn't matter

I look forward to further improvements, i still use plugins, especially for Poly pads and stuff, OPX-II my current favourite, already sounds brilliant but would be great if there was scope for improvement in the sound

OPX-II is leagues ahead. Miles more authentic than Diva imo.

I own a hardware synth, I pretty much know everything about everything now. Its the benefit of buying hardware as portrayed by people that have hardware.
