Im not big into producing but I would like to get into it.

Now, why would you want a sampler when you can do all that through software?

A sampler is a device with limitations, and that's
what is good about it... you always know what you get!
On a softsampler, this is different... sometimes you'll
be able to run 64 voices, on a bad day maybe only 18...

Especially when you're a giggin muso, hardware is just
so much more reliable!

Besides, my opinion is that an Akai S-Series just sounds
good, and has incredibly punchy envelopes.

Greetz,

My "studio" is just FruityLoops with z3ta+.
And, of course, whatever samples I might find on the web

Guys, do you really think all the fancy studios that you've described (and posted pics of) are worth the $$$? I mean, a single Korg synth or a Novation or especially a Waldorf, costs a shitload of money. If you're relatively young, and/or a student - which I think most of us are - why, if you're an amateur and still learning, would you make such huge investments? For some people, DJing is a hobby. But music production is more expensive than DJing. I understand we all have this hobby, but... aren't the costs just a little unreasonable?

I'm asking 'cause I'm learning more about production and wouldn't mind getting myself a hardsynth like one of those you have, just to learn hardware... but the prices are pretty high... Although I must say, I've listened to modular's works and he really gets a very pro sound out of his stuff...

-Computer-
Homebuilt:

Athlon XP 1900+ (1,6Ghz)
512mb DDR RAM
100gb hdd
Geforce 3 TI500
Soundblaster Live 5.1 <-- the weakest link right now im my equip

19" CRT Samsung monitor (1280*1024 @ 101hz)
Windows XP Pro

-Software-

Reason 2.5
Cubase SX
Waves Native gold bundle
Cool Edit

-Softsynths & Plugins-

Spectrasonics Atmosphere
Steinberg Halion
Native Instruments FM7
Native Instruments Absynth
Native Instruments Pro52
Waldorf Attack
Waldorf D-Pole

-MIDI-

Evolution MK-249C (connected via USB)

what I'm currently missing in my studio is a good pair of monitors (trying to afford tanoys) and a good soundcard, apart from that I'm 100% satisfyed with my "Home studio"

although a couple of hardwaresynths wouldn't hurt but the softsynths I have works fine enough to make it sound pro
